Test of Turbulence Models for Wind Flow over Terrain with Separation and Recirculation

چکیده
Several two-equation turbulence models using isotropic eddy viscosity and wall functions are assessed by solution of the neutral atmospheric boundary layer over a flat surface and wind flow over twoand three-dimensional models and real terrain. Calculations are presented for wind flow over the Sirhowy Valley in Wales, an embankment along the Rhine in Germany and the Askervein Hill in Scotland. Comparisons of predictions with previous work, and laboratory and field data, show that the RNG-based k– model gives the best agreement with respect to the flow profiles and length of the separated flow region. The results of this model are analyzed with a non-linear stress-strain relation to gauge the potential effect of turbulence anisotropy.

Laser scanning of a recirculation zone on the Bolund escarpment
Rapid variations in the height of the recirculation zone are measured with a scanning wind lidar over a small escarpment on the Bolund Peninsula. The lidar is essentially a continuous-wave laser Doppler anemometer with the capability of rapidly changing the focus distance and the beam direction. The instrument measures the line-ofsight velocity 390 times per second and scans ten wind profiles f...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of the Turbulent Flow over a Three-Dimensional Flat Roof
The flow field over a flat roof model building has been numerically investigated in order to determine threedimensional CFD guidelines for the calculation of the turbulent flow over a structure immersed in an atmospheric boundary layer. To this purpose, a complete validation campaign has been performed through a systematic comparison of numerical simulations with wind tunnel experimental data. ...
متن کاملStudy of Clear Air Turbulence over Iranian Plato
This study was carried out using two sets of numerical weather forecast data and flight reports for Clear Air Turbulence (CAT) over Iranian Plato to find atmospheric flow patterns favorable to the formation of CAT. The numerical data include five months of AVN analysis with horizontal resolution of 1 degree(about 100 km) and four months forecast data of MM5 model with resolution of 50 km. Impor...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Separation Bubble on Elliptic Cylinders Using Three-equation k-? Turbulence Model
Occurrence of laminar separation bubbles on solid walls of an elliptic cylinder has been simulated using a recently developed transitional model for boundary layer flows. Computational method is based on the solution of the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations and the eddy-viscosity concept. Transitional model tries to simulate streamwise fluctuations, induced by freestream turbulen...
متن کاملNumerical and Experimental Analysis of the Effect of Flow Discharge Ratio on Flow Separation at 45 Degree Open End Water Intake
Flow separation at water intake is the main cause of head loss and flow discharge reduction.
As a result, study of shape and size of separation is very essential when designing an optimum water intake. Water intake is normally built with a 90 degree angle to the main channel flow direction. However, the flow structure in this type of water intake consists of large separation size along wit...
