چکیده

Segmentation of images in the context of model based stochasUc techniques is connected with high, very often unpracticle computational complexity. The objective with this thesis is to take the models used in model based image processing, simplify and use them in suboptimal. but not computationally demanding algorithms. Algorithms that are essentially one-dimensional, and their extensions to two dimensions are given. The model used in this thesis is the well known hidden Markov model. Estimation of the number of hidden states from observed data, is a problem that is addressed. The state order estimation problem is of general interest and is not specifically connected to image processing. An investigation of three state order estimation techniques for hidden Markov models is given.

Automated Tumor Segmentation Based on Hidden Markov Classifier using Singular Value Decomposition Feature Extraction in Brain MR images

ntroduction: Diagnosing brain tumor is not always easy for doctors, and existence of an assistant that                                                      facilitates the interpretation process is an asset in the clinic. Computer vision techniques are devised to aid the clinic in detecting tumors based on a database of tumor c...

Multisensor image segmentation using Dempster-Shafer fusion in Markov fields context

This paper deals with the statistical segmentation of multisensor images. In a Bayesian context, the interest of using hidden Markov random fields, which allows one to take contextual information into account, has been well known for about 20 years. In other situations, the Bayesian framework is insufficient and one must make use of the theory of evidence. The aim of our work is to propose evid...

Unsupervised classification of radar images using hidden Markov chains and hidden Markov random fields

Due to the enormous quantity of radar images acquired by satellites and through shuttle missions, there is an evident need for efficient automatic analysis tools. This paper describes unsupervised classification of radar images in the framework of hidden Markov models and generalized mixture estimation. Hidden Markov chain models, applied to a Hilbert–Peano scan of the image, constitute a fast ...

Quantitative Comparison of SPM, FSL, and Brainsuite for Brain MR Image Segmentation

Background: Accurate brain tissue segmentation from magnetic resonance (MR) images is an important step in analysis of cerebral images. There are software packages which are used for brain segmentation. These packages usually contain a set of skull stripping, intensity non-uniformity (bias) correction and segmentation routines. Thus, assessment of the quality of the segmented gray matter (GM), ...

We describe a new class of computationally efficient algorithms designed to solve incomplete-data problems frequently encountered in image processing and computer vision. The basis of this framework is the ...
