چکیده

Jacob Hendricks , Matthew J. Patitz , and Trent A. Rogers ? ? ? Abstract. In this paper, we investigate the abilities of systems of selfassembling tiles which can each pass a constant number of signals to their immediate neighbors to create replicas of input shapes. Namely, we work within the Signal-passing Tile Assembly Model (STAM), and we provide a universal STAM tile set which is capable of creating unbounded numbers of assemblies of shapes identical to those of input assemblies. The shapes of the input assemblies can be arbitrary 2-dimensional hole-free shapes at scale factor 2. This greatly improves previous shape replication results in self-assembly that required models in which multiple assembly stages and/or bins were required, and the shapes which could be replicated were quite constrained. Asynchronous Signal Passing for Tile Self-assembly: Fuel Efficient Computation and Efficient Assembly of Shapes

In this paper we study the power of a model of tile self-assembly in which individual tiles of the system have the ability to turn on or off glue types based on the bonding of other glues on the given tile. This work is motivated by the desire for a system that can effect recursive self assembly, and is guided by the consideration of a DNA origami implementation of four-sided tiles which have a...

A Self-assembly Model of Time-Dependent Glue Strength

We propose a reversible self-assembly model in which the glue strength between two juxtaposed tiles is a function of the time they have been in neighboring positions. We then present an implementation of our model using strand displacement reactions on DNA tiles. Under our model, we can for the first time demonstrate and study catalysis and self-replication in the tile assembly rigorously. We t...

One Tile to Rule Them All: Simulating Any Tile Assembly System with a Single Universal Tile

In the classical model of tile self-assembly, unit square tiles translate in the plane and attach edgewise to form large crystalline structures. This model of self-assembly has been shown to be capable of asymptotically optimal assembly of arbitrary shapes and, via information-theoretic arguments, increasingly complex shapes necessarily require increasing numbers of distinct types of tiles. We ...

Pictures worth a thousand tiles, a geometrical programming language for self-assembly

We present a novel way to design self-assembling systems using a notion of signal (or ray) akin to what is used in analyzing the behavior of cellular automata. This allows purely geometrical constructions, with a smaller specification and easier analysis. We show how to design a system of signals for a given set of shapes, and how to transform these signals into a set of tiles which self-assemb...

New Geometric Algorithms for Staged Self-Assembly

We consider staged self-assembly, in which squareshaped Wang tiles can be added to bins in several stages. Within these bins the tiles may connect to each other, depending on the glue types of their edges. In general, self-assembly constructs complex (polyomino-shaped) structures from a limited set of square tiles. Previous work by Demaine et al. considered a setting in which assembly proceeds ...
