iMONDRIAN: A Visual Tool to Annotate and Query Scientific Databases
نویسندگان
چکیده
We demonstrate iMONDRIAN, a component of the MONDRIAN annotation management system. Distinguishing features of MONDRIAN are (i) the ability to annotate sets of values (ii) the annotation-aware query algebra. On top of that, iMONDRIAN offers an intuitive visual interface to annotate and query scientific databases. In this demonstration, we consider Gene Ontology (GO), a publicly available biological database. Using this database we show (i) the creation of annotations through the visual interface (ii) the ability to visually build complex, annotationaware, queries (iii) the basic functionality for tracking annotation provenance. Our demonstration also provides a cheat window which shows the system internals and how visual queries are translated to annotation-aware algebra queries.

Querying with Terminological Ontologies and Their Annotations
Today, with the increasing development of computational biology, various large databases are built to describe genomic information and the used experimental data. To guarantee the consistency of biological concepts used in different databases, the Gene Ontology (GO) has been developed by the Gene Ontology Consortium to describe biological concepts and their relationships in a species-independen...
متن کاملTowards Graphical Query Notation for Semantic Databases
We describe a notation and a tool for schema-enabled visual/diagrammatic creation of SPARQL queries over RDF databases. The notation and the tool support both the standard basic query pattern comprising a main query class and possibly linked condition classes and means for aggregate query definition and placing conditions over aggregates including also aggregation of aggregate results. We discu...
متن کاملRelational Databases Query Optimization using Hybrid Evolutionary Algorithm
Optimizing the database queries is one of hard research problems. Exhaustive search techniques like dynamic programming is suitable for queries with a few relations, but by increasing the number of relations in query, much use of memory and processing is needed, and the use of these methods is not suitable, so we have to use random and evolutionary methods. The use of evolutionary methods, beca...
متن کاملToward a Visual Query System for Spatio-Temporal Databases
Visual query systems (VQS) for spatio-temporal databases, which enable formulation of queries involving both spatial and temporal dimensions, are an important research subject. Existing results treat these dimensions separately and there are only a few integrated proposals. This chapter presents a VQS called spatio-temporal visual query environment (S-TVQE), which allows the formulation of conv...
متن کاملConversational Databases: Explaining Structured Queries to Users
Many applications offer a form-based environment for naı̈ve users for accessing databases without being familiar with the database schema or a structured query language. DoIt-Yourself, database-driven web application platforms empower non-programmers to rapidly create applications. Users interactions are translated to structured queries and executed. However, as a user is unlikely to know the un...
