چکیده

We present Intelligent Indexing: a general, scalable, collaborative approach to indexing and transcription of non-machinereadable documents that exploits visual consensus and group labeling while harnessing human recognition and domain expertise. In our system, indexers work directly on the page, and with minimal context switching can navigate the page, enter labels, and interact with the recognition engine. Interaction with the recognition engine occurs through preview windows that allow the indexer to quickly verify and correct recommendations. This interaction is far superior to conventional, tedious, inefficient post-correction and editing. Intelligent Indexing is a trainable system that improves over time and can provide benefit even without prior knowledge. A user study was performed to compare Intelligent Indexing to a basic, manual indexing system. Volunteers report that using Intelligent Indexing is less mentally fatiguing and more enjoyable than the manual indexing system. Their results also show that it reduces significantly (30.2%) the time required to index census records, while maintaining comparable accuracy. Green ICR: Semi-Automated Census Record Indexing with Emphasis on Human Computer Interaction

Human-based computation is an approach that utilizes the abilities and strengths of both humans and computers to achieve a symbiotic interaction that is stronger than either agent in isolation. We propose a system that amplifies the capacity of a human indexer by adding an intelligent handwriting recognition engine to the indexing process. This recognition engine will learn patterns in handwrit...

Cost Function Modelling for Semi-automated SC, RTG and Automated and Semi-automated RMG Container Yard Operating Systems

This study analyses the concept of cost functions for semi-automated Straddle Carrier (SC), Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) and automated Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) container yard operating cranes. It develops a generic cost based model for a pair-wise comparison, analysis and evaluation of economic efficiency and effectiveness of container yard equipment to be used for decision-making by terminal pla...

Mathematical Modeling for a Flexible Manufacturing Scheduling Problem in an Intelligent Transportation System

This paper presents a new mathematical model for a production system through a scheduling problem considering a material handling system as an intelligent transportation system by automated guided vehicles (AGVs). The traditional systems cannot respond to the changes and customer’s demands and for this reason, a flexible production system is used. Therefore, for this purpose, automated transpor...

Semi-automated construction of adversarial agents for trainable automated forces

Virtual agents are used by the military for extensive training of pilots. However, creating virtual agents with the appropriate behaviors is a lengthy and specialized process. We describe a new tool (TAF) to allow rapid creation of virtual adversarial agents by non-specialized personnel. In TAF, users can draw diagrams of agent behavior which are matched within a pre-existing knowledge base. By...

Semi-quantitative segmental perfusion scoring in myocardial perfusion SPECT: visual vs. automated analysis

Introduction: It is recommended that the physician apply at least a semi-quantitative segmental scoring system in myocardial perfusion SPECT.  We aimed to assess the agreement between automated semi-quantitative analysis using QPS (quantitative Perfusion SPECT) software and visual approach for calculation of summed stress  score (SSS), summed rest score (SRS) and summed difference score (SDS). ...
