چکیده

This paper describes design, fabrication, and characterization of microhotplates based on microcantilevers. Six different hotplate cantilever esigns are proposed to investigate heating response time and temperature uniformity. Devices were fabricated and their electrical, thermal, and echanical characteristics were measured. The cantilevers have electrical resistance in the 1 k range, consume 1–100 mW power, have a heating nd cooling time constant <1 ms, and maximum operation temperature >1000 ◦C. The temperature uniformity was characterized and is excellent or all of the devices. These cantilevers are targeted for use where both microhotplates and microcantilevers would be useful sensing platforms. 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Fabrication and structural characterization of a resonant frequency PZT microcantilever

The fabrication and structural characterization of a surface micromachined, resonant frequency, Pb(Zr, Ti)O3 (PZT) microcantilever will be presented. The PZT microcantilever was fabricated using surface micromachining techniques, and used a low-stress silicon nitride thin film as the base material for the microcantilever onto which a PZT thin film was incorporated. The PZT thin film is used as ...

Rational Design Approach for Enhancing Higher-Mode Response of a Microcantilever in Vibro-Impacting Mode

This paper proposes an approach for designing an efficient vibration energy harvester based on a vibro-impacting piezoelectric microcantilever with a geometric shape that has been rationally modified in accordance with results of dynamic optimization. The design goal is to increase the amplitudes of higher-order vibration modes induced during the vibro-impact response of the piezoelectric trans...

An Accurate and Computationally Efficient Model for Membrane-Type Circular-Symmetric Micro-Hotplates

Ideally, the design of high-performance micro-hotplates would require a large number of simulations because of the existence of many important design parameters as well as the possibly crucial effects of both spread and drift. However, the computational cost of FEM simulations, which are the only available tool for accurately predicting the temperature in micro-hotplates, is very high. As a res...

Modeling, Fabrication and Testing of a Customizable Micromachined Hotplate for Sensor Applications

In the sensors field the active sensing material frequently needs a controlled temperature in order to work properly. In microsystems technology, micro-machined hotplates represent a platform consisting of a thin suspended membrane where the sensing material can be deposited, usually integrating electrical stimuli and temperature readout. The micro-hotplate ensures a series of advantages such a...
