Fast approximate solution of Bloch equation for simulation of RF artifacts in Magnetic Resonance Imaging

چکیده
The technique used to spot information in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses electromagnetic fields. Even minor perturbations of these magnetic fields can disturb the imaging process and may render clinical images inaccurate or useless. Modelling and numerical simulation of the effects of static field inhomogeneities are now well established. Less attention has been paid to mathematical modeling of the effects of radio-frequency (RF) field inhomogeneities in the imaging process. When considering RF field inhomogeneities, the major difficulty is that the mathematical expression of the magnetisation vector is not anymore explicitly known contrarily to the unperturbed case. Indeed, the Bloch equation becomes an ordinary differential equation with non constant coefficients that cannot be solved analytically. The use of standard numerical schemes for ordinary differential equations to compute the magnetisation vector appears to be costly and not well suited for MRI image simulation. In this paper, we present an original method for solving the Bloch equation based on a truncated series expansion of the solution. The computational cost of the method reduces to the computation of the eigen-elements of a block tridiagonal matrix of a very small size.

3-D RF Coil Design Considerations for MRI
High-frequency coils are widely used in medical applications, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems. A typical medical MRI includes a local radio frequency transmit/receive coil. This coil is designed for maximum energy transfer or wave transfer through magnetic resonance. Mutual inductance is a dynamic parameter that determines the energy quantity to be transferred wirelessly by ele...
متن کاملComputer Assisted Magnetic Resonance Imaging (mri) Simulation on the Basis of Mr System Components
Introduction: Computer simulations for MRI tend to focus on different application areas. Traditionally, design of MR system components, such as the main magnet, gradients and RF coils is done using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) [1] and finite element (FEM) [2] methods. In doing so, certain generic specifications are followed in the belief that this will minimize imaging artifacts, wh...

متن کاملAccelerating Magnetic Resonance Imaging through Compressed Sensing Theory in the Direction space-k
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive imaging method widely used in medical diagnosis. Data in MRI are obtained line-by-line within the K-space, where there are usually a great number of such lines. For this reason, magnetic resonance imaging is slow. MRI can be accelerated through several methods such as parallel imaging and compressed sensing, where a fraction of the K-space lines...
