چکیده

This paper examines how cognitive and environmental factors influence the formation of dyadic ties. We use agent models instantiated in ACT-R that interact in a social simulation, to illustrate the effect of memory constraints on networks. We also show that environmental factors are important including population size, running time, and map configuration. To examine these relationships, we ran simulations of networks using a factorial design. Our analyses suggest three interesting conclusions: first, the tie formation of these networks approximates a logistic growth model; second, that agent memory quality (i.e., perfect or humanlike) strongly alters the network’s density and structure; third, that the three C. What Matters in Social Networks: Defining Factors of Interest for Agent-‐based Socio-‐cognitive Simulations

This paper examines dyadic social tie formation, and how cognitive and environmental factors influence the formation of dyadic ties. Using agent models instantiated in ACT-R that interact in a large-scale social simulation, we capture the affect of environmental factors including population size, running time, and map configurations, as well as memory constraints. To explore and test these rela...

The socio - cognitive theory in information retrieval (IR)

Abstract Background and Aim: The socio-cognitive theory introduced in information science by Horland and Alberchtsen. The socio-cognitive view turns the traditional cognitive program upside down. The socio-cognitive theory emphasizes on different cultural and social structures of users. Hence, the aim of the article is to explain the role of socio - cognitive theory in information retrieval (I...

Defining Factors of Interest for Large-scale Socio-cognitive Simulations

We examine how several environmental factors influence cognition and the emergence of social networks in artificial societies. Using a large-scale socio-cognitive simulation (VIPER), we generated social networks consisting of 20, 40, and 60 agents. We tested the impact that environmental factors such as population size, map configuration, and run time, particularly on the formation of social ti...

Preprint of a Chapter to appear in the book: Cognitive Economics

This Chapter provides a short introduction to Agent-based Computational Economics (ACE), in order to underline the interest of such an approach in cognitive economics. Section 2 provides a brief bird’s eye view of ACE. In section 3, some interesting features of the Santa-Fe Approach to complexity are then introduced by taking simple examples using the Moduleco computational laboratory. Section ...
