Smart mechatronic driver for surgical trajectory navigation
نویسندگان
چکیده
The aim of trajectory navigation is to position a surgical instrument along a planned trajectory. Computer assisted navigation systems show maximal flexibility but are limited by the costs and accuracy of the used optical tracking system and the human errors during free-hand navigation. Robotic devices can reach highest accuracy but are expensive and potentially safety critical due to active electric components being close to the patient. The novel concept of a smart mechatronic driver may reach the same accuracy as using robotic systems but without active components being attached to the patient. To achieve this, the kinematic structure of the positioning device is build from pure mechanical components and a handheld smart mechatronic driver is used to adjust the device to reach the planned position. After rigidly attaching a reference platform containing x-ray opaque markers to the anatomy an image based planning has to be done to define the desired trajectory. The system then automatically calculates the necessary adjustments of the positioning device. The surgeon can then use the smart mechatronic driver as an intelligent electric screwdriver which knows how to adjust each axis. This concept has been implemented for pedicle screw placement and drilling of the guidance pin for hip resurfacing. First evaluations show that higher accuracy can be achieved in comparison to the use of optically tracked freehand navigation.

GPS Jamming Detection in UAV Navigation Using Visual Odometry and HOD Trajectory Descriptor
Auto-navigating of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in the outdoor environment is performed by using the Global positioning system (GPS) receiver. The power of the GPS signal on the earth surface is very low. This can affect the performance of GPS receivers in the environments contaminated with the other source of radio frequency interference (RFI). GPS jamming and spoofing are the most serious a...
متن کاملKinematic fundamentals of a biomechatronic laparoscopy system.
BACKGROUND Optical assistance in laparoscopic surgery is essential for an optimal procedure. Unlike conventional surgery, it requires new systems to reduce spatial location time, navigation and cleanliness without compromising surgical quality. This article shows the kinematic analysis of a new bio-mechatronic design to assist laparoscopic visual perspective in real time, either during training...

This paper presents a new approach to constrained trajectory generation dedicated to Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. Based on the information provided by the digital map database of a navigation system, the proposed solution is devoted to a control-oriented trajectory generation approach taking account of constraints which limit the behaviour of a common car, relative to the road to be foll...
متن کاملHuman-Robot Collaborative Planning for Navigation Based on Optimal Control Theory
Navigation modules are capable of driving a robotic platform without direct human participation. However, for some specific contexts, it is preferable to give the control to a human driver. The human driver participation in the robotic control process when the navigation module is running raises the share control issue. This work presents a new approach for two agents collaborative planning usi...
متن کاملLane Change Trajectory Model Considering the Driver Effects Based on MANFIS
The lane change maneuver is among the most popular driving behaviors. It is also the basic element of important maneuvers like overtaking maneuver. Therefore, it is chosen as the focus of this study and novel multi-input multi-output adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system models (MANFIS) are proposed for this behavior. These models are able to simulate and predict the future behavior of a Dri...
