چکیده

This paper addresses quality of service aspects of orchestrated web service-based business processes in service-oriented architectures. The proposed mathematical model uses operations research techniques and formal semantics of the Business Process Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL4WS) to estimate expected execution times and counts of invocations of partner web services for each activity of a given process and for this process as a whole. These estimations are performed from the standpoint of a web service integrator. Furthermore, the model is applied to forecast the influence of the execution of a set of orchestrated processes on utilization and throughput of individual service provider nodes and of the performance of the whole system. The final objective is to support the optimization of service levels agreements (SLA) between the integrator and involved web service providers. A software infrastructure that implements the model is described as well.

A Reference Architecture for Automation of Inter-Organizational Process-Oriented Collaboration

In today’s competitive, dynamic, and changing business environment, being able to collaborate globally within and beyond the enterprise borders is critical. Inter-Organizational Collaborations (IOCs) have been proposed as a response to the characteristics of highly competitive global business environments. So far, a number of reference models, frameworks, and ad hoc architectures related to som...

06291 Abstracts Collection -- The Role of Business Processes in Service-Oriented Architectures

Service oriented architectures, an emerging paradigm for designing and implementing business collaborations within and across organizational boundaries, are currently of interest to both software vendors and scientists. In this paradigm, the functionality provided by business applications is encapsulated within web services: software components described at a semantic level, which can be invoke...

Towards a Services-Based Process Platform

Service oriented software architectures that are aware of business processes will form the core of operational IT landscapes in the future. This contribution starts with an introduction of the state of the art in service oriented architectures. A concrete case study identifies central requirements that are not satisfied by these architectures so far. The authors argue that semantically rich des...

Ontology-Based Self-Organization in Service-Oriented Architectures

In Service-Oriented Architectures services can be deployed and removed at runtime and can be arranged to business processes. Service-based applications and business processes can be reconfigured and optimized by replacing the participating services. In large environments, service processes should employ self-properties to improve manageability and flexibility. We demonstrate an approach, realiz...

A service-oriented architecture for financial business processes

Recent years have witnessed a tremendous growth in information and communication technologies that facilitate the design and implementation of complex inter-enterprise business processes. One of the major innovations is the concept of service-oriented architectures which considers software systems as being made up with autonomous, dynamic, loosely coupled and service-based components. This pape...
