Organ Regeneration

چکیده
Technologies for reprogramming cells are spreading like wildfire. One laboratory after another is reporting faster, more efficientmethods for generating cardiomyocytes, blood cells, and even neurons, all from readily available skin fibroblasts. But how close are these ‘‘custom-made’’ cells to reaching the clinic? This Select highlights recent studies demonstrating the ability of cultured stem cells to repopulate and regenerate damaged organs in vivo while also offering a glimpse of future challenges on the horizon.

REGENERATION OF NEOFORMANT ORGANS FROM ORGAN-PARTS OF SOME CROCUS SPECIES
Explants of leaves, petals, anthers, styles and ovaries of C. speciosus, C. cancellatus, C. gilanicus and C. almehensis were cultured on LS media with three different combinations of NAA and BAP in the dark. Callus and neoformant organs (leaf and corm-like structure and ordinary and contractileroots) were fomd on some of these explants. Corm explants from these species were also cultured on...
متن کاملZebrafish Regulatory T Cells Mediate Organ-Specific Regenerative Programs.
The attenuation of ancestral pro-regenerative pathways may explain why humans do not efficiently regenerate damaged organs. Vertebrate lineages that exhibit robust regeneration, including the teleost zebrafish, provide insights into the maintenance of adult regenerative capacity. Using established models of spinal cord, heart, and retina regeneration, we discovered that zebrafish Treg-like (zTr...
متن کاملTranscriptional regulators in the Hippo signaling pathway control organ growth in Xenopus tadpole tail regeneration.
The size and shape of tissues are tightly controlled by synchronized processes among cells and tissues to produce an integrated organ. The Hippo signaling pathway controls both cell proliferation and apoptosis by dual signal-transduction states regulated through a repressive kinase cascade. Yap1 and Tead, transcriptional regulators that act downstream of the Hippo signaling kinase cascade, have...
متن کاملMacrophages and fibroblasts during inflammation and tissue repair in models of organ regeneration
This review provides a concise summary of the changing phenotypes of macrophages and fibroblastic cells during the local inflammatory response, the onset of tissue repair, and the resolution of inflammation which follow injury to an organ. Both cell populations respond directly to damage and present coordinated sequences of activation states which determine the reparative outcome, ranging from ...
متن کاملForelimb regeneration in hypophysectomized adult Diemictylus viridescens following organ culture and autoplastic implantation of the adenohypophysis.
After autografting an organ-cultured anterior pituitary gland, maintained in culture for up to 27 days, into the tail or lower jaw of an hypophysectomized adult Diemictylus viridescens, the animals recovered and survived readily until fixation at 102 days (129 days posthypophysectomy) and normal bilateral limb regeneration occurred. Also, restoration of normal skin colour, muscle tone, eating h...
