More Randomness of Environment Does Not Always Slow down a Random Walk

چکیده
We consider a random walk on Z in a stationary and ergodic random environment, whose states are called types of the vertices of Z. We nd conditions for which the speed of the random walk is positive. In the case of a Markov chain environment with nitely many states, we give an explicit formula for the speed and for the asymptotic proportion of time spent at vertices of a certain type. Using these results, we compare the speed of random walks on Z in environments of varying randomness. 1. Introduction There are several results of the form: "a random walk in a random environment escapes more slowly than a random walk in a constant environment" (see 5], 7], 8], 9], 10]). In the present paper, we prove another statement of this kind. Moreover, we show that the word "constant" cannot simply be replaced by "non-random" or "less random".

A PRELUDE TO THE THEORY OF RANDOM WALKS IN RANDOM ENVIRONMENTS
A random walk on a lattice is one of the most fundamental models in probability theory. When the random walk is inhomogenous and its inhomogeniety comes from an ergodic stationary process, the walk is called a random walk in a random environment (RWRE). The basic questions such as the law of large numbers (LLN), the central limit theorem (CLT), and the large deviation principle (LDP) are ...
متن کاملSlow movement of random walk in random environment on a regular tree
We consider a recurrent random walk in random environment on a regular tree. Under suitable general assumptions upon the distribution of the environment, we show that the walk exhibits an unusual slow movement: the order of magnitude of the walk in the first n steps is (log n) 3 .
متن کاملRandom walks in space time mixing environments
We prove that random walks in random environments, that are exponentially mixing in space and time, are almost surely diffusive, in the sense that their scaling limit is given by the Wiener measure. 1 The results Random walks in random environments are walks where the transition probabilities are themselves random variables (see [22, 23] for recent reviews of the literature). The environments c...
متن کاملTesting the weak form of efficient market hypothesis in carbon efficient stock indices along with their benchmark indices in select countries
This paper presents the results of tests on the weak form of Efficient Market Hypothesis applied to carbon efficient stock market indices of India, the United States of America (USA), Japan, and Brazil and their corresponding market indices which are used as their benchmark indices. In this study, Kolmogrov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests are used to test the normality of data. Run test and auto...
متن کاملRandom Walk Routing in Wireless Sensor Networks
In this report, we present a survey of routing techniques in the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), which are based on random walk. WSNs consist of small nodes which are capable of sensing, computation, and communication. These nodes can use up their limited supply of energy performing the computations and wireless communication. Different techniques handle this constraint in different ways (e.g....
