Power Spectrum of Cosmic Momentum Field Measured from the Sfi Galaxy Sample
نویسنده
چکیده
We have measured the cosmic momentum power spectrum from the peculiar velocities of galaxies in the SFI sample. The SFI catalog contains field spiral galaxies with radial peculiar velocities derived from the I-band Tully-Fisher relation. As a natural measure of the large-scale peculiar velocity field, we use the cosmic momentum field that is defined as the peculiar velocity field weighted by local number of galaxies. We have shown that the momentum power spectrum can be derived from the density power spectrum for the constant linear biasing of galaxy formation, which makes it possible to estimate βS = Ω 0.6 m /bS parameter precisely where Ωm is the matter density parameter and bS is the bias factor for optical spiral galaxies. At each wavenumber k we estimate βS(k) as the ratio of the measured to the derived momentum power over a wide range of scales (0.026 hMpc . k . 0.157 hMpc) that spans the linear to the quasi-linear regimes. The estimated βS(k)’s have stable values around 0.5, which demonstrates the constancy of βS parameter at scales down to 40 h Mpc. We have obtained βS = 0.49 +0.08 −0.05 or Ωm = 0.30 +0.09 −0.05b 5/3 S , and the amplitude of mass fluctuation as σ8Ω 0.6 m = 0.56 +0.27 −0.21. The 68% confidence limits include the cosmic variance. We have also estimated the mass density power spectrum. For example, at k = 0.1047 hMpc (λ = 60 hMpc) we measure Ω m Pδ(k) = (2.51 +0.91 −0.94) × 10 3 (hMpc), which is lower compared to the high-amplitude power spectra found from the previous maximum likelihood analyses of peculiar velocity samples like Mark III, SFI, and ENEAR. Cosmic Momentum Field and Mass Fluctuation Power Spectrum
We introduce the cosmic momentum field as a new measure of the large-scale peculiar velocity and matter fluctuation fields. The momentum field is defined as the peculiar velocity field traced and weighted by galaxies, and is equal to the velocity field in the linear regime. We show that the radial component of the momentum field can be considered as a scalar field with the power spectrum which ...
متن کاملEnear Redshift-distance Survey: Cosmological Constraints
We present an analysis of the ENEAR sample of peculiar velocities of field and cluster elliptical galaxies, obtained with Dn–σ distances. We use the velocity correlation function, ψ1(r), to analyze the statistics of the field–object’s velocities, while the analysis of the cluster data is based on the estimate of their r.m.s. peculiar velocity, Vrms. The results are compared with predictions fro...

Context. An analytical solution of the generalized diffusive and convective transport equation is derived to explain the transport of cosmic ray protons within elliptical galaxies. Aims. Cosmic ray transport within elliptical galaxies is an interesting element in understanding the origin of high energetic particles measured on Earth. As probable sources of those high energetic particles, ellipt...
متن کاملBulk Flow and Shear Moments of the SFI++ Survey
We find the nine bulk–flow and shear moments from the SFI++ survey, as well as for subsamples of group and field galaxies. We constrain the velocity power spectrum shape parameter Γ in linear theory using these moments. A likelihood function for Γ was found after marginalizing over the power spectrum amplitude σ8Ω 0.6 m using constraints obtained from comparisons between redshift surveys and pe...
متن کاملCovariance of the One-Dimensional Mass Power Spectrum
We analyse the covariance of the one-dimensional mass power spectrum along lines of sight. The covariance reveals the correlation between different modes of fluctuations in the cosmic density field and gives the sample variance error for measurements of the mass power spectrum. For Gaussian random fields, the covariance matrix is diagonal. As expected, the variance of the measured one-dimension...
