Efficient Retrieval from Hierarchies of Objects using Lattice Operations
نویسنده
چکیده
Managing large numbers of complex objects or descriptions requires sophisticated storage and retrieval mechanisms. Hierarchical classiication techniques have proven to be useful for managing complex objects in practice. Previous classiication methods have not used all the information recorded in hierarchies. We show how lattice operations can be used to navigate around a hierarchy. This is achieved by plunging the hierarchy into a boolean lattice of binary words. Greatest lower bound (GLB) and relative complementation (BUTNOT) lattice operations on the hierarchical structure (rather than the objects or descriptions themselves) are used to focus the search. Experiments show the number of objects compared when classifying objects using these techniques is signiicantly reduced.

GALOIS: An Order-Theoretic Approach to Conceptual Clustering
The theory of concept (or Galois) lattices provides a natural and formal setting in which to discover and represent concept hierarchies. In this paper we present a system, GALOIS, which is able to determine the concept lattice corresponding to a given set of objects. GALOIS is incremental and relatively efficient, the time complexity of each update ranging from O(n) to O(n2) where n is the numb...
متن کاملData Envelopment Analysis from simulation on the Lattice QCD using CCR model
One of the most serious principles in production theory in economic is the principle of "efficiency". Simply put, efficiency can be defined as the demand that the desired goals (outputs) are achieved with the minimum use of the available resources (inputs). In order to, distinguish the relative efficiency of organizational units with multiple inputs to produce multiple outputs, "Data Envelopmen...
متن کاملEfficient OLAP Operations in Spatial Data Warehouses
Spatial databases store information about the position of individual objects in space. In many applications however, such as traffic supervision or mobile communications, only summarized data, like the number of cars in an area or phones serviced by a cell, is required. Although this information can be obtained from transactional spatial databases, its computation is expensive, rendering online...
متن کاملTemporal Predictions with Bayesian Compositional Hierarchies
In this note I describe a novel approach to modelling and exploiting probabilistic dependencies in compositional hierarchies for model-based scene interpretation. I present Bayesian Compositional Hierarchies (BCHs) which capture all probabilistic information about the objects of a compositional hierarchy in object-centered aggregate representations. BCHs extend typical Bayesian Network models b...
متن کاملPrecision-Controlled Retrieval of Qualitative Information from Databases Using Hierarchies
Can we retrieve objects from a database that are just close to a desired item? Can we control the retrieval process up to a given error? Can we define a semantic similarity between objects to be retrieved? The paper seeks for positive answers to these questions by using hierarchies. Sometimes, qualitative values can be arranged in a hierarchy, a tree with certain properties. Hierarchies allow t...
