چکیده

An association between ADA1 and Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) has been observed in Polish and in Italian populations but in Italian population the association was present in males only. In order to enlighten these differences we have carried out a collaborative study in the two populations. In Italy 215 subjects admitted to the Hospital for CAD, 275 subjects with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) without CAD and 398 healthy newborns were studied. In Poland 173 subjects with CAD and 200 healthy newborns were studied. Written informed consent was obtained from all subjects or from their mothers to participate to the study that was approved by the I.R.B. ADA1 polymorphism was determined by DNA analysis. Three way contingency table analysis was performed by a log linear model. The association between CAD and ADA1 is present in non diabetic male subjects only: OR = 0.195, p = 0.007 in the Italian population and OR = 0.163, p = 0.004 in the Polish population. The data suggest a significant role of immunological mechanisms in the pathogenesis of CAD without diabetes. Gender differences in immune diseases could explain the lack of association in females.

Association of G22A variant of Adenosine Deaminase gene with coronary in-stent restenosis in coronary artery patients receiving drug-eluting stent

In-stent restenosis (ISR) is regarded as the main problem in the utilization of stents in the treatment of coronary artery atherosclerotic stenosis in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). This study investigated the possible role of the G22A variant of the Adenosine Deaminase gene (ADA) in the development of ISR. In this study, 91 patients who underwent PCI were divided into two groups of ...

Coronary Artery Disease: A Study on the Joint Role of Birth Weight, Adenosine Deaminase, and Gender

An inverse relationship between birth weight and coronary artery diseases is well documented but it remains unclear which exposure in early life might underlie such association. Recently it has been reported an association between adenosine deaminase genetic polymorphism and coronary artery diseases. Gender differences in the degree of this association have been also observed. These observation...

Association between Serum Adenosine Deaminase Activity and Blood Glucose Level in Gestational Diabetes

Background &Objectives: Adenosine deaminase (ADA) is a marker of T cell activation. ADA catalyzes the deamination of adenosine and modulates the bioactivity of insulin. The aim of this study was to investigate a possible relationship between ADA activity and various clinical and metabolic parameters, including fasting plasma sugar (FBS) and glycated hemoglobin (HBA1c), in gestational diabetes (...

G22A Polymorphism of Adenosine Deaminase and its Association with Biochemical Characteristics of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in an Iranian Population

Adenosine deaminase (ADA) is an important regulator of insulin action. The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) G22A in the ADA gene decreases enzymatic activity of ADA. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the SNP G22A and blood glycemic control, insulin resistance, and obesity of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) patients in an Iranian population. SNP G22A was d...

Association of Inflammatory Mediators with Coronary Artery Disease in Diabetic Patients

Background and Objectives: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is regarded as the leading cause of morbidity and mortality around the world. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with the development of CAD and increased risk of morbidity and mortality. The goal of this study was to assess the association of tumor necrosis factorα (TNF-α) and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) with CAD severi...
