چکیده

[1] Atmospheric carbon monoxide (CO) is measured by the EOS Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) on NASA’s recently-launched Aura satellite. Descent has been observed in the 2004–2005 Northern Hemisphere winter polar mesosphere and upper stratosphere. During August and September 2004 enhanced CO was observed in the upper troposphere over India and Tibet. The MLS CO measurements are described and the radiance signal due to the enhanced CO in the upper troposphere is demonstrated. Citation: Filipiak, M. J., R. S. Harwood, J. H. Jiang, Q. Li, N. J. Interrelated variations of O 3 , CO and deep convection in the tropical / subtropical upper troposphere observed by the Aura Microwave Limb Sounder ( MLS ) during 2004 – 2011

The interrelated geographic and temporal variability seen in more than seven years of tropical and subtropical upper tropospheric (215 hPa) ozone, carbon monoxide and cloud ice water content (IWC) observations by the Aura Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) are presented. Observed ozone abundances and their variability (geographic and temporal) agree to within 10–15 ppbv with records from sonde observ...

The photochemistry of carbon monoxide in the stratosphere and mesosphere evaluated from observations by the Microwave Limb Sounder on the Aura satellite

[1] The photochemical production and loss rates for carbon monoxide (CO) in the stratosphere and mesosphere are evaluated using measurements from the Aura Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) and the Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment‐Fourier Transform Spectrometer (ACE‐FTS). The distributions of reactive trace gases involved in the photochemistry of CO, including OH, CH4, O( D), Cl, as well as temperatu...

Comparison of ClO measurements from the Aura Microwave Limb Sounder to ground-based microwave measurements at Scott Base, Antarctica, in spring 2005

[1] We have examined measurements of chlorine monoxide, ClO, in the lower stratosphere by the Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) on the Aura satellite in the austral spring of 2005. These measurements have been compared to those of a ground-based spectrometer at Scott Base, Antarctica. The data analysis is performed in both cases by subtracting nighttime measurements from daytime ones. The transition...

Airborne Fourier transform spectrometer observations in support of EOS Aura validation

[1] Nearly coincident observations of HNO3, HCl, N2O, and H2O in the vicinity of the northern polar vortex during the NASA Polar Aura Validation Experiment (PAVE) in January and February 2005 have shown reasonably good agreement between aircraft-borne infrared spectrometer results and results from High Resolution Dynamics Limb Sounder (HIRDLS), Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS), and Tropospheric Emi...
