Two selection stages provide efficient object-based attentional control for dynamic vision

چکیده
In this paper, we introduce semiattentive computations as the result of replacing the usual single selection stage of visual attention by two consecutive selection stages. They are motivated by shortcomings of conventional attention models and correlate well to findings in human attention. The first selection stage employs preattentive saliency computations for the complete available input, and selects a small number of discrete items. These are subject to the semiattentive processes of tracking and information accumulation. The second stage selects a single element from the result of the first selection stage for the conventional focus of attention. The implementation and efficiency of this scheme is demonstrated in this paper. Its main advantage is the efficient selection and inhibition of objects in dynamic scenes. It allows the serialized accumulation of information for a changing environment and provides an upto-date world model. The focus of this paper is on the quality of the computed world model and the object-related computations.

Object-based cross-feature attentional modulation from color to motion
Object-based theories of visual attention predict that attempting to direct attention to a particular attribute of a visual object will result in an automatic selection of the whole object, including all of its features. It has been assumed, but not critically tested, that the spreading of attention from one feature to another in this manner, i.e. cross-feature attentional (CFA) effects, takes ...

The attentional prioritization hypothesis of object-based attention (Shomstein & Yantis in Perception & Psychophysics, 64, 41-51, 2002) suggests a two-stage selection process comprising an automatic spatial gradient and flexible strategic (prioritization) selection. The combined attentional priorities of these two stages of object-based selection determine the order in which participants will s...
متن کاملThe gradual emergence of spatially selective target processing in visual search: From feature-specific to object-based attentional control.
To dissociate feature-based and object-based stages in the control of spatial attention during visual search, we employed the N2pc component as an electrophysiological marker of attentional object selection. Participants searched for a target object that was defined by a conjunction of color and shape. Some search displays contained the target or a nontarget object that matched either the targe...

This research focuses on proposing an optimal trajectory planning and control method of two link rigid-flexible manipulators (TLRFM) for Dynamic Object Manipulation (DOM) missions. For the first time, achievement of DOM task using a rotating one flexible link robot was taken into account in [20]. The authors do not aim to contribute on either trajectory tracking or vibration control of the End-...
متن کاملObject-based attention: shifting or uncertainty?
The contribution of object-based attentional guidance to visual processing is widely accepted, and recent models of attentional selection now include both space- and object-based representations. Nevertheless, although the mechanism of space-based attentional selection has been well characterized, the mechanism underlying object-based attentional selection remains poorly understood. Recent atte...
