The giant cells in the synovial membrane.

چکیده
Histopathological examinations of synovial tissues, obtained in 393 operations, disclosed the presence of foreign body giant cells or synovial giant cells or both in 51 cases. The presence of the former could be related to the occurrence of material foreign to the location, whereas for the latter group fo coincidence of precipitated fibrin only was noted in a significant number of cases. The patients operated upon were classified by 10 diagnosed entities of joint disease, and the synovial giant cells, lysing among synoviocytes or in the subsynoviocytic tissue, were observed in 8 of these categories. Thus no diagnostic significance could be attributed to the giant cells.

3450 bovine from different breeds and ages were clinically examined for the presence of arthritis. 120 cases showed macroscopic evidences of arthritis. Mycoplasma spp were isolated from synovial fluid of 21 affected animals. In addition to Mycoplasma spp. Arcanobacterium pyogenes and Staphylococcus epidermidis were isolated from 2 cases. The synovial fluid was markedly increased, straw color, t...

The presence of a distinctive multinucleated giant cell has recently been described in the s, a vial membrane in rheumatoid arthlitis and its diagnostic significance has been stressed (Grimley and Sokoloff, 1966; Donald and Kerr, 1968). Although passing reference to the presence of multinucleated synovial cells in rheumatoid arthritis was made by Hirohata and Kobay.-.s'i (1964), thle occurrence...

EA R o CAL s-ruDis of normal and rheumatoid synovial membranes showed markedly increased acid phosphatase and oxidase activities in the lining cells of the rheumatoid membrane.' Acid phosphatase activity, evident in cytoplasmic granules, serves as a marker for lysosomes-subcellular organelles first described by deDuve and shown to contain numerous hydrolases active at an acid pH.2'3 Homogenates...
متن کاملCytology of Giant Cell Tumour of the Tendon Sheath - ADiagnostic Dilemma
Giant cell tumour of tendon sheath (GCTTS), better known as localized nodular tenosynovitis, is a benign slow growing lesion most commonly presenting as a soft tissue nodule with a peak incidence in the third to fourth decade of life. It arises from the synovium of tendon sheath, bursa or joint. GCTTS is thought to arise from synovial lining cells, while the giant cells in GCTSS are structurall...

Synovial chondromatosis is a rare neoplastic condition which usually involves major joints. This tumor is a cartilaginous metaplasia which occurs within synovial membrane of joint or tendon sheets. Multiple cartilaginous nodules can become free from synovial membrane and float in the joint space. X-Ray almost always shows multiple calcified areas so evidently that usually diagnosis ...
