A simple clinical model to predict presence of myocardial fibrosis in patients with aortic stenosis

چکیده
Background Both midwall and infarction-related fibrosis affect prognosis in patients with aortic stenosis. CMR remains the gold standard for identification of replacement fibrosis, however its use can be limited by patient suitability, cost and availability. We sought to develop a clinical model to identify the presence of fibrosis (midwall or infarction) based on variables from patient demographics, biomarker and imaging parameters which could potentially be applied easily in the outpatient setting.

Lipoprotein(a) in patients with aortic stenosis: Insights from cardiovascular magnetic resonance
BACKGROUND Aortic stenosis is the most common age-related valvular pathology. Patients with aortic stenosis and myocardial fibrosis have worse outcome but the underlying mechanism is unclear. Lipoprotein(a) is associated with adverse cardiovascular risk and is elevated in patients with aortic stenosis. Although mechanistic pathways could link Lipoprotein(a) with myocardial fibrosis, whether the...
متن کاملPre- and post-contrast T1 mapping for detection of myocardial fibrosis in severe aortic stenosis before and after aortic valve replacement
Background Severe aortic stenosis (AS) leads to diffuse fibrosis in the myocardium, which could cause poor clinical outcome. Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) with recently T1 mapping is a promising technique to identify diffuse myocardial fibrosis. The Objective of the present study was to assess myocardial fibrosis by CMR using T1 mapping in patients with surgical AS and evaluate the ev...
متن کاملImpact of myocardial fibrosis in patients with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis.
BACKGROUND In this prospective follow-up study, the effect of myocardial fibrosis on myocardial performance in symptomatic severe aortic stenosis was investigated, and the impact of fibrosis on clinical outcome after aortic valve replacement (AVR) was estimated. METHODS AND RESULTS Fifty-eight consecutive patients with isolated symptomatic severe aortic stenosis underwent extensive baseline c...

During 15 years from 1975 to 1990, thirteen cases of supravalvar aortic stenosis were admitted at the pediatrics department of Shahid Rajai Heart Hospital, Tehran. All patients were subjected to cardiac catheterization and a angiocardiography. Patients ranged in age from 3.5 years to 14 years with a mean of 8.7 years. Seventy seven percent of childen were male. Eight cases (61.5%) had Wil...
متن کاملIncreased Frequency of Fragmented QRS in Patients with Severe Aortic Valve Stenosis
OBJECTIVE To investigate the presence of myocardial fibrosis determined by fragmented QRS in patients with severe aortic valve stenosis. SUBJECTS AND METHODS Eighty-seven consecutive patients with severe aortic valve stenosis and 83 age- and gender-matched control subjects were enrolled into this study. Severe aortic valve stenosis was defined as an aortic valve area <1 cm(2), a Vmax >4 m/s, ...
