چکیده

In this paper, we discuss the applications of physicallayer security in LTE cellular networks. In particular, we consider three application areas of physical-layer security: authentication, key generation, and confidentiality. We present a few physicallayer security extensions targeting aforementioned application areas and demonstrate how they can be implemented in LTE systems. We also present their performance assessment in a simulated LTE cellular environment which was obtained with open-source LTE link-level simulators developed by Technical University of Vienna. Finally, we offer our view on standardization perspectives of the considered physical-layer security extensions.

On the Feasibility of Cellular Resource Reuse for Device-to-Device Communication under 3GPP Network Constraints

One of the major features to be developed in 3GPP Release 12 is direct Device-to-Device (aka D2D) communication, as a support for so-called 3GPP Proximity Services (or ProSe). The main advantage of using D2D communication in 3GPP networks is the provision of higher data rates and radio resource usage rates, thanks to the proximity of communicating users. This paper reports a feasibility study o...

Security Issues in Next Generation Mobile Networks: LTE and Femtocells

Cellular mobile networks are used by more than 4 billion users worldwide. One effective way to meet the increasing demand for data rates is to deploy femtocells, which are lowpower base stations that connect to the mobile operator through the subscriber’s residential Internet access. Yet, security and privacy issues in femtocell-enabled cellular networks, such as UMTS and LTE, still need to be ...

User-to-User Mutual Authentication and Key Agreement Scheme for LTE Cellular System

Long Term Evolution LTE is the first technology that provides exclusively packet-switched data and modifies the security architecture of the 2G and 3G systems. The LTE security architecture offers confidentiality, access control, a kind of obscurity and mutual authentication. However, numerous types of attacks can be encountered during the mutual authentication process which is a challengerespo...

A Novel Design of a Multi-layer 2:4 Decoder using Quantum- Dot Cellular Automata

The quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) is considered as an alternative tocomplementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology based on physicalphenomena like Coulomb interaction to overcome the physical limitations of thistechnology. The decoder is one of the important components in digital circuits, whichcan be used in more comprehensive circuits such as full adde...

Performance Analysis of LTE Physical Layer Based on 3GPP- Release-8

Long Term Evolution is the last step towards the 4th generation of cellular networks. This revolution is necessitated by the unceasing increase in demand for high speed connection on LTE networks. This paper mainly focuses on performance evaluation of LTE physical layer to study and analysis the effect of transmitting and receiving data over noisy channels and how to resist loss in data by this...
