چکیده

Detecting the presence of non-stationarity events in a signal is a challenge that is still not taken up. The aim of this paper is to make a contribution to this key issue. We already proposed a non-stationarity detection defined in time-frequency domain in order to control the invariance of the time-frequency statistics. In this paper, in order to be not limited by the time and frequency resolution of a time-frequency approach, we propose another test in frequency domain. In frequency domain, the problem can be cast by taking advantage of the normalized-variance properties of a spectral estimator when analyzing non-stationary signals. This second test will confirm, invalidate or detect new frequency localizations of non-stationarities. Finally, the main contribution of the paper is to propose a stationary index defined so as to merge the information given by these two tests and to allow an alarm to be raised for a high level of non-stationarities. Applications on real-world signals show the pertinence of this new index.

Using Wavelets and Splines to Forecast Non-Stationary Time Series

This paper deals with a short term forecasting non-stationary time series using wavelets and splines. Wavelets can decompose the series as the sum of two low and high frequency components. Aminghafari and Poggi (2007) proposed to predict high frequency component by wavelets and extrapolate low frequency component by local polynomial fitting. We propose to forecast non-stationary process u...

A time-frequency search for stock market anomalies

We carry out a time-frequency analysis of daily values of the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 Index of stock prices based on 62 years of data. The algorithm used is based on pruning dyadic trees to obtain optimal stationary segmentations of non-stationary time series. The resulting time-frequency representations yield insights into the frequency-domain evolution of the US stock mar...

Time-periodic Electroosmotic Flow of Non-newtonian Fluids in Microchannels

The alternating current electroosmotic flow of a non-Newtonian power-law fluid is studied in a circular microchannel. A numerical method is employed to solve the non-linear Poisson-Boltzmann and the momentum equations. The main parameters which affect the flow field are the flow behavior index, the dimensionless zeta potential and the dimensionless frequency. At very low dimensionless frequenci...

Synchrosqueezing-based Transform and its Application in Seismic Data Analysis

Seismic waves are non-stationary due to its propagation through the earth. Time-frequency transforms are suitable tools for analyzing non-stationary seismic signals. Spectral decomposition can reveal the non-stationary characteristics which cannot be easily observed in the time or frequency representation alone. Various types of spectral decomposition methods have been introduced by some resear...

An Adaptive Segmentation Method Using Fractal Dimension and Wavelet Transform

In analyzing a signal, especially a non-stationary signal, it is often necessary the desired signal to be segmented into small epochs. Segmentation can be performed by splitting the signal at time instances where signal amplitude or frequency change. In this paper, the signal is initially decomposed into signals with different frequency bands using wavelet transform. Then, fractal dimension of ...
