Generic Representations in Children’s Drawings
نویسنده
چکیده
To investigate drawing development, kindergarten (N = 213; age range 2;0–3;9and Grade 1 (N = 183; age range 6;11–8;9) children performed Moore’s (1986) colouring task. It was found that young children’s drawings of a cube represent generalizations rather than particular models. An intermediate stage of differentiation between scribbles and representational drawings, closed forms, was identified. It was discovered that very young children often do not co-ordinate outline drawings with colouring. Outline drawing stage was correlated with colour use and co-ordination of colouring. Seven categories of ways how children colour in the single square that was drawn to represent the model cube were

Drawings as a window into developmental changes in object representations
How do children’s representations of object categories change as they grow older? As they learn about the world around them, they also express what they know in the drawings they make. Here, we examine drawings as a window into how children represent familiar object categories, and how this changes across childhood. We asked children (age 3-10 years) to draw familiar object categories on an iPa...
متن کاملThe Impact of Attachment Style on the Family Drawings of School-Aged Children
Objectives: Primary school children's representations of themselves and their attachment figures were explored by assessing their family drawings. The main aim of the study was to empirically explore differences in the representations of children with secure versus insecure attachment. The study was theoretically informed by attachment theory and methodologically based on widely-used systems fo...
متن کاملThoughtful Drawings: A Computational Model of the Cognitive Nature of Children's Drawing
An interpretation of children’s drawing is presented that is based on active perception of the world and the construction of an equivalent self contained two-dimensional world. This model is implemented in a computer program called Rose (Representation Of Spatial Experience). Inspired by the drawings of young children, Rose simulates the perception of the general form and structure of three-dim...

متن کاملEffects of different emotion terms on the size and colour of children’s drawings
Recent studies have shown that, when an affective characterisation is given to a topic, children adjust the size and colour of those topics in their drawings: children increase the size of drawings of topics characterised as “nice”, do not always decrease the size of topics characterised as “nasty”, and use differential colouring systematically to distinguish between “nice” and “nasty” topics i...
