چکیده

GIMMI project, started in April 2002, aims at bridging the gap of communication in the Pesticide Impact Assessment domain between Data Providers (soil, meteorology, agronomy, pesticide experts), Scientists (chemists, geologists, modellers and academic institutions), Service Providers (local and central governments, public administration bodies, private chemical industries manufacturing pesticides) and Final Users (agronomists, consultants and even citizens in the street). This can be achieved by allowing the inter-operability via Web of Geographic Information (GI) environmental protection services physically distributed and locally managed by their own generators, by providing the proper IT structures to represent and manage temporal knowledge, and by integrating the Information Technology (IT) infrastructure state-of-the-art legacy systems for document management and report generation. The main results of GIMMI will be a Web brokerage system supporting different web services such as: On-Line Data Access to seek and drill down into huge amount of distributed Geographic Information; On/Off-Line Simulations allowing inter-relation of distributed databases to run mathematical models. The validation scenario chosen for GIMMI is the field of Pesticides Impact Assessment in agriculture practices and Land Protection, by the adoption of four alternative EC-validated pesticide leaching models.

Simulation, Visualization, and Decision Support in GIMMI

The paper provides a survey of objectives, components, and architecture of the services developed in the GIMMI project and software. The purpose of GIMMI is to provide a one-stop and integrated access to the assessment of pesticide leaching into soil and groundwater. The user may retrieve appropriate maps of the desired spatial area, select the crop and pesticide types to be considered, apply m...

Collaborative Decision Support for Spatial Planning Applications

For complex spatial decision problems a combination of software tools for group decision support, individual decision support and geographic analysis is required. The paper describes a respective approach and the integration of tools that were originally developed independently in two teams of Fraunhofer AIS. The first software system, Zeno, is a Java application for the World Wide Web designed...

Semantic Bim and Gis Modelling for Energy-efficient Buildings Integrated in a Healthcare District

The subject of energy-efficient buildings (EeB) is among the most urgent research priorities in the European Union (EU). In order to achieve the broadest impact, innovative approaches to EeB need to resolve challenges at the neighbourhood level, instead of only focusing on improvements of individual buildings. For this purpose, the design phase of new building projects as well as building retro...

Towards generalised reference condition models for environmental assessment: a case study on rivers in Atlantic Canada

Evaluation of the ecological status of river sites in Canada is supported by building models using the reference condition approach. However, geography, data scarcity and inter-operability constraints have frustrated attempts to monitor national-scale status and trends. This issue is particularly true in Atlantic Canada, where no ecological assessment system is currently available. Here, we pre...

Optimizing the Distribution of Dairy Products by Heuristic Algorithms and Geographic Information System: A Case Study of FARS PEGAH DAIRY COMPANY

The problem of the distribution of dairy products, which is classified as a combinatorial optimization problem, cannot be solved in polynomial time. In this paper, an algorithm based on Ant Colony Hybrid meta-heuristic system and Geographic Information System (GIS) was used to find a near-optimal solution to this problem. Using the former method, the nearest neighbor heuristic algorithm was use...
