Nature’s Cortisol Formula

چکیده

Chronic stress, combined with inadequate nutrition, insufficient relaxation and lack of sleep, can lead to excess blood cortisol levels. Cortisol is a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands that mediates the body’s response to stress. Although cortisol is an essential stress-protection hormone, research has confirmed the close relationship between high cortisol levels and stress-induced obesity. In fact, stress is the most commonly reported trigger of binge-eating. Not surprisingly, recent studies indicate that high cortisol levels are not only positively related to excess abdominal body fat, but also to increased food intake following stress, particularly of sweet and high-fat foods. In addition, researchers have consistently found elevated cortisol levels among individuals with depression. Furthermore, prolonged high levels of cortisol increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, insulin resistance and diabetes, bone loss, muscle wasting and impaired immunity.1-14

Gibbs Free Energy Formula for Protein Folding

Proteins are life’s working horses and nature’s robots. They participate in every life process. They form supporting structures of cell, fibre, tissue, and organs; they are catalysts, speed up various life critical chemical reactions; they transfer signals so that we can see, hear, and smell; they protect us against intruders such as bacteria and virus; they regulate life cycles to keep that ev...

Long-term Associations of an Early Corrected Ventricular Septal Defect and Stress Systems of Child and Mother at Primary School Age

Introduction Ventricular septal defect (VSD) is the most common congenital heart defect, with larger VSDs typically being corrected with an open-heart surgery during infancy. Long-term consequences of a VSD-corrective surgery on stress systems of child and mother are still unknown. The aim of the present study is to investigate the associations of an early corrected VSD and diurnal cortisol rel...
