Renormalized perturbation Theory: a missing chapter

چکیده
Why a talk on Renormalized Perturbation Theory (RPT) in 2008? The consensus established in the 70’s under the acronym BPHZ is part of elementary particle physicists’ theoretical equipment. Yet, the corresponding literature is hard to penetrate for a mind endowned with good logical connections typically that of a professional mathematician. This state of affairs may be assigned, in parts, to some fuzziness about the connection between the operator version and the functional version (à la Feynman) of quantum mechanics, in this context. In standard textbooks[5], the latter are both usually described in formal terms which are most of the time not subject to any mathematical formalization . Parallel to the establishment of BPHZ, and following the path indicated by E.C.G. Stueckelberg[6][7], N.N. Bogoliubov[1] and coworkers, H. Epstein and

Properties of the renormalized quark mass in the Schrödinger functional with a non–vanishing background field
We compute the current quark mass in the Schrödinger functional with a non–vanishing background field at one loop order of perturbation theory. The results are used to obtain the critical mass at which the renormalized quark mass vanishes, and some lattice artefacts at one loop order.
متن کاملDisplacement Operator Formalism
We review the D-formalism, a new method for determining the renormalization of Green functions to all orders in perturbation theory. This formalism exploits the fact that the renormalized Green functions may be calculated by displacing by an infinite amount the renormalized fields and parameters of the theory with respect to the unrenormalized ones. We briefly discuss some of its main character...

Renormalization of Velocity-Changing Dimension-Five Operators in the Heavy-Quark Effective Theory
We study the renormalization of operators of the type h̄v′ΓG hv in the heavy-quark effective theory (HQET). We construct the combinations of such operators that are renormalized multiplicatively, and calculate their velocity-dependent anomalous dimensions at the one-loop order. We then show that the virial theorem of the HQET is not renormalized, and that in the limit of equal velocities the ano...
