چکیده

A subsemigroup S of a semigroup Q is a left order in Q and Q is a semigroup of left quotients of S if every element of Q can be expressed as ab where a, b ∈ S and if, in addition, every element of S that is square cancellable lies in a subgroup of Q. Here a denotes the inverse of a in a subgroup of Q. We say that a left order S is straight in Q if in the above definition we can insist that aR b in Q. A complete characterisation of straight left orders in terms of embeddable ∗-pairs is available. In this paper we adopt a different approach, based on partial order decompositions of semigroups. Such decompositions include semilattice decompositions and decompositions of a semigroup into principal factors or principal ∗-factors. We determine when a semigroup that can be decomposed into straight left orders is itself a straight left order. This technique gives a unified approach to obtaining many of the early results on characterisations of straight left orders.

Left I-quotients of band of right cancellative monoids

Let $Q$ be an inverse semigroup. A subsemigroup $S$ of $Q$ is a left I-order in $Q$ and $Q$ is a semigroup of left I-quotients of $S$ if every element $qin Q$ can be written as $q=a^{-1}b$ for some $a,bin S$. If we insist on $a$ and $b$ being $er$-related in $Q$, then we say that $S$ is straight in $Q$. We characterize semigroups which are left I-quotients of left regular bands of right cancell...

Inverse Semigroups of Left I-quotients

We examine, in a general setting, a notion of inverse semigroup of left quotients, which we call left I-quotients. This concept has appeared, and has been used, as far back as Clifford’s seminal work describing bisimple inverse monoids in terms of their right unit subsemigroups. As a consequence of our approach, we find a straightforward way of extending Clifford’s work to bisimple inverse semi...

Abstract. The relation between representations and positive definite functions is a key concept in harmonic analysis on topological groups. Recently this relation has been studied on topological groupoids. This is the first in a series of papers in which we have investigated a similar relation on inverse semigroups. We use a new concept of ”restricted” representations and study the restricted s...

No : 11 Title : ‘ Primitive Inverse Semigroups of Left I - Quotients ’ Author ( S ) :

A subsemigroup S of an inverse semigroup Q is a left I-order in Q, if every element in Q can be written as a−1b where a, b ∈ S and a−1 is the inverse of a in the sense of inverse semigroup theory. We study a characterisation of semigroups which have a primitive inverse semigroup of left I-quotients.
