چکیده

We propose the study of long-term variations in the Fe Kα line profile as a discriminator for binary black hole (BH) systems. The existence of a binary BH in the center of an active galaxy will produce a particular signature in the evolution of the line profile, as a result of disk precession. This signature is a periodic variation of the position of the blue edge of the profile, accompanied by periodic change of its intensity. We show that detection of the former is clearly within the observational capabilities of planned X-ray missions. Detecting a periodic variation of line profiles would provide the first direct evidence for precessing discs in active galactic nuclei, as opposed to the existing evidence supporting only the precession of jets. We apply these ideas to 3C 273. Subject headings: line:profiles — quasars:individual (3C 273)

We consider stationary, axially and equatorially symmetric systems consisting of a central rotating and charged degenerate black hole and surrounding physically realistic matter. We show that a + Q = M always holds, where a = J/M is the black hole’s intrinsic angular momentum per unit mass, Q its electric charge and M the well known black hole mass parameter introduced by Christodoulou and Ruff...

The coalescence of massive black hole binaries is one of the main sources of low-frequency gravitational radiation that can be detected by LISA. When two galaxies containing massive black holes merge, a binary forms at the center of the new galaxy. We discuss the evolution of the binary after its separation decreases below one parsec. Whether or not stellar dynamical processes can drive the bla...

In light of recent evidence suggesting a nonzero present-day cosmological constant [1], Adams, Mbonye, & Laughlin[2] have considered the evolution of black holes in the presence of vacuum energy. Using the assumption that Λ remains constant with time and a conjecture based on a paper by Mallett [3], they reach the remarkable conclusion that black holes with current mass greater than ∼ 2 × 10 −9...

Black Holes: Fermions at the Extremal Limit?

I present exact results matching Kerr-Newman Black Hole thermodynamics in the extremal limit to the two-dimensional Fermi Gas. Two dimensions are consistent with the membrane paradigm of black holes. Key in the analysis is the thermodynamic Riemannian curvature scalar R, negative for most ordinary thermodynamic systems, including those near the critical point, but mostly positive for the Kerr-N...

We show that the black hole perturbations of the Hayward static solution to the massless Einstein-Klein-Gordon equations are actually gauge artifacts resulting from the linearization of a coordinate transformation. In a recent paper [1], Hayward discussed a homothetic, static solution to the massless Einstein-Klein-Gordon equations. With the spherically symmetric ansatz ds = rdΩ − 2edxdx (1) (w...
