Effect of base concentration upon the reactivities of the hydroxyl groups in methyl D-glucopyranosides.

چکیده
The anomeric methyl D-glucopyranosides were treated with NJV-diethylaziridinium chloride in various molarities of aqueous sodium hydroxide at variable ionic strength and constant ionic strength. It was found that the extent of reaction of the hydroxyl groups at C-2, C-3, and C-4 decreased with increasing concentration of base. Reaction at the C-6 hydroxyl group remained essentially constant with increasing concentration of base. Neither varying the ionic strength nor the concentration of reagent affected the distribution of substituents at any given concentration of base.

Effects of Trans -hydroxyl Groups in Alkaline Degradation of Glycosidic Bonds
The influence of ß-dihydroxyl groups in the alkaline hydrolysis of glucosidic bonds is examined. In deriva tives of ß-D-glucopyranosides, all hydroxyl groups are trans to each other, and the alkaline elimination of sub stituted methyl ethers in positions C-2 and C-4 can be explained, in part, by assistance from neighboring trans a-hydroxyls. The rate of degradation of ethyl 2-2-methyl-ß-D-glu...

متن کاملTiO2 Pigment Suspension Behaviour upon Adsorption of Polymeric Dispersants
The influence of polymeric dispersants containing different functional groups on TiO2 pigment particle suspension was investigated at pH 6.0 and 9.5, using rheology and particle size data. The dispersants chosen were polyacrylic acid and modified polyacrylamides including homo and copolymers modified with carboxylate and/or hydroxyl groups. The pigment suspension was strongly affected by both p...
