چکیده

The existing TCP/IP based Internet relies on the Internet Protocol to provide a basic level of networklayer functionality that abstracts out the heterogeneous link-layer technologies over which the Internet operates. IP provides end-to-end packet switched communication across the network under certain, often unstated, assumptions. These assumptions do not necessarily apply to the class of challenged networks [6] that operate under constraints such as limited power and bandwidth, high delay and lack of endto-end connectivity. The recent emergence of these networks and their potential growth has encouraged research into adapting existing architectures and protocols and developing new ones that can be applied in these challenged networks. This literature survey covers a small collection of papers that discuss the research surrounding an architecture for delay tolerant networks that addresses some of the problems posed by challenged networks. Challenged networks are described and the architecture, its components and applications are discussed. The survey is organised as follows. Section 2 discusses challenged networks and the problems they pose, and introduces the papers. Section 3 describes the delay tolerant network architecture and its components. Finally, Section 4 concludes.

Novel Metric Conditional Shortest Path Routing in Delay Tolerant in Wireless Mobile Ad-hoc Networks

Routing in delay tolerant networks (DTN) is a challenging problem because at any given time instance, the probability that there is an end-to-end path from a source to a destination. Opportunistic delay tolerant networks are organized by the sporadic connectivity between their nodes and the lack of stable paths from sender to receiver. Future connections are mostly unknown in these networks sen...

A survey of protocols for Intermittently Connected Delay-Tolerant Wireless Sensor Networks

Intermittently Connected Delay-TolerantWireless Sensor Networks (ICDT-WSNs), a branch of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), have features of WSNs and the intermittent connectivity of Delay-Tolerant Networks (DTNs). The applications of ICDT-WSNs are increasing in recent years, however, the communication protocols suitable for this category of networks often fall short. Most of the existing communi...

Reliability and Timeliness Analysis of Fault-tolerant Distributed Publish/Subscribe Systems

Distributed publish / subscribe paradigm is a powerful data dissemination paradigm that offers both scalability and flexibility for time-sensitive applications. However, its nature of high expressiveness makes it difficult to analyze or predict the performance of publish / subscribe systems such as event delivery probability and end-toend delivery delay, especially when the publish / subscribe ...

A Unified Framework for Delay-Sensitive Communications

• Delay sensitive multimedia applications are booming over a variety of time-varying networks (e.g. sensor networks, WiMax, Wireless LAN, etc.) • Existing dynamic distributed network environments cannot provide adequate support for delay-sensitive multimedia applications • This problem has been investigated for a decade, but we still do not have efficient solutions for it.

Survey of Applications of Network Coding in Wired and Wireless Networks

We review the basic works in the area of network coding and present a detailed survey of applications of network coding in network problems. It is shown that both in wired and wireless networks, multicast and broadcast protocols perform better with network coding. Even in unicast applications, network coding based protocols perform as well as the protocols without network coding. We also survey...
