Handling Data Spatially: Spatializating User Interfaces

چکیده

The impact of GIS research extends beyond GIS. Our expertise about space, spatial relations, and spatial knowledge needs to be shared with other domains who can benefit from it, even if their problems are not inherently spatial. This paper discusses the needs for spatial expertise in the field of human-computer interaction. Modern user interface design increasingly employs spatial metaphors to structure objects and operations in understandable and useful ways. Spatialized user interfaces create a virtual space in which users perceive, operate, and move while they solve their application problems. The designers of these virtual spaces need to be informed about human spatial cognition and properties of spaces in order to design "usable" and credible spaces. They also need technological support for implementing spatial data structures or databases and procedures for accessing, navigating, and visualizing them. The paper investigates these needs, proposes a theory to address them, and shows how spatial data handling expertise helps to handle data spatially. .H\ZRUGV: Spatialization, spatial metaphors, user interfaces, usability, task analysis.

Interactive Machine Learning tool with Automatic Tagging for Video Recognition System

Interactive machine learning (IML) is proposed to train intelligent systems. This paper proposes a new approach to solve the feedback delay and low visibility problem of conventional IML handling large-scale data. The approach features high-speed feedback using an approximate nearest neighbor, process controllability by the user, and priority based visualization. The validity of the approach is...

A Morphological Box for Handling Temporal Data in B2C Systems

User interfaces are key properties of Business-to-Consumer (B2C) systems, and Web-based reservation systems are an important class of B2C systems. In this paper we show that these systems use a surprisingly broad spectrum of different approaches to handling temporal data in their Web interfaces. Based on these observations and on a literature analysis we develop a Morphological Box to present t...

Beyond Location Based - The Spatially Aware Mobile Phone

An increasing number of mobile phones feature embedded sensors such as GPS receivers, digital compasses or accelerometer-based tilt sensors. In this paper, we present an application framework for building spatially aware mobile applications – applications that visualize, process or exchange geospatial information – on mobile phones equipped with such sensors. The core component of the framework...
