Virtual Network Ports: An Inter-network Switching Framework
نویسنده
چکیده
1 Abstract: Routers are unable to scale to the explosive growth of the Internet traffic. This is mainly due to the amount of processing required to forward IP packets. IP switching techniques avoid the IP layer by forwarding packets at the link layer. The current IP switching techniques suffer from problems like label explosion, inefficient label stacking and fragmentation. The proposed method addresses these problems through the simple concept of virtual network port. A VNP provides a layer-2 conduit to network ports on remote hosts or routers. They are conceptually simpler, have better semantics and more efficient than labels. They have active controls that allow processing of packets flowing though them. This helps in implementing service guarantee and engineering network traffic.

Congestion estimation of router input ports in Network-on-Chip for efficient virtual allocation
Effective and congestion-aware routing is vital to the performance of network-on-chip. The efficient routing algorithm undoubtedly relies on the considered selection strategy. If the routing function returns a number of more than one permissible output ports, a selection function is exploited to choose the best output port to reduce packets latency. In this paper, we introduce a new selection s...

This paper tries to estimate the capital investment required for the fixed-telephony network switching equipment as demanded by the fourth national development plan. As a first step, the Cobb-Douglas model is used as a successful demand forecasting model to estimate the demand over the target years. Then, an architectural plan is developed for the fixed-telephony switching network that takes in...

متن کاملDesign of a Low-Latency Router Based on Virtual Output Queuing and Bypass Channels for Wireless Network-on-Chip
Wireless network-on-chip (WiNoC) is considered as a novel approach for designing future multi-core systems. In WiNoCs, wireless routers (WRs) utilize high-bandwidth wireless links to reduce the transmission delay between the long distance nodes. When the network traffic loads increase, a large number of packets will be sent into the wired and wireless links and can...
متن کاملFramework for PCE-Based Inter-Layer MPLS and GMPLS Traffic Engineering
A network may comprise multiple layers. It is important to globally optimize network resource utilization, taking into account all layers rather than optimizing resource utilization at each layer independently. This allows better network efficiency to be achieved through a process that we call inter-layer traffic engineering. The Path Computation Element (PCE) can be a powerful tool to achieve ...
