Reader: Cognitive Science: An Information Processing Perspective

Watching a speaker in face-to-face communication can influence what the perceiver hears the speaker saying. I tested whether written language would also influence audible speech perception. Observers identified spoken syllables while reading a written syllable. Observers identified what they heard the speaker saying. The two hypotheses are 1) reading a written syllable will have a strong influence on the identification of auditory speech, and 2) reading a written syllable will have no influence on the identification of
