Unanimity in Attributebased Preference Domains Unanimity in Attribute-based Preference Domains

چکیده
We provide several characterizations of unanimity decision rules, in a public choice model where preferences are constrained by attributes possessed by the alternatives (Nehring and Puppe, 2007a,b). Solidarity conditions require that when some parameters of the economy change, the agents whose parameters are kept fixed either all weakly lose or they all weakly win. Population-monotonicity (Thomson, 1983a,b) applies to the arrival and departure of agents, while replacement-domination (Moulin, 1987) applies to changes in preferences. We show that either solidarity property is compatible with voter-sovereignty and strategy-proofness if and only if the attribute space is quasi-median (Nehring, 2004), and with Pareto-effi ciency if and only if the attribute space is a tree. Each of these combinations characterizes unanimity. JEL classification codes: D63, D71, H41.

Solidarity and Unanimity in Attribute-Based Domains
We study the implications of population-monotonicity (Thomson, 1983) and replacement-domination (Moulin, 1987) in the class of attributebased preference domains (Nehring and Puppe 2002 a,b). Both conditions require that when some parameters of the economy change, the agents whose parameters are kept xed, should either all weakly lose or all weakly win. Population-monotonicity applies to the ar...

متن کاملOrdinal Bayesian incentive compatibility in restricted domains
We study deterministic voting mechanisms by considering an ordinal notion of Bayesian incentive compatibility (OBIC). If the beliefs of agents are independent and generic, we show that a mechanism is OBIC and satisfies an additional condition called elementary monotonicity if and only if it is a dominant strategy incentive compatible mechanism. Our result works in a large class of preference do...
متن کاملCoalitional unanimity versus strategy-proofness in coalition formation problems
This paper examines coalition formation problems from the viewpoint of mechanism design. We consider the case where (i) the list of feasible coalitions (those coalitions which are permitted to form) is given in advance; and (ii) each individual’s preference is a ranking over those feasible coalitions which include this individual. We are interested in requiring the mechanism to guarantee each c...
متن کاملAgreeing to Agree: Reaching Unanimity via Preference Dynamics Based on Reliable Agents
Situations akin to public deliberation leading to preference changes are modelled. A set of agents is considered, each endowed with a preference relation over a set of objects and a reliability relation over the involved agents. Different ways in which the public announcement of the current individual preferences can influence the agents’ future preferences are studied. Special emphasis is give...
