Use of HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS models with ArcView for hydrologic risk management

چکیده

The paper discusses how the well known USACE HEC models, RAS and HMS, are fully integrated within the decision support system of the Romagna River Basins in order to predict flood effects. The models are fully available from the web and cope with such a variety of problems as rainfall-runoff modeling, river and civil works hydraulics, and the mapping of hydraulic hazard. The paper illustrates the methodology followed to integrate existing topographic and hydrologic data, calibrate both hydrologic and hydraulic models, and produce maps directly usable in land planning. The paper stresses the organizational problems involved in the development of such a decision support system, and sketches the main issues in pipelining general planning analysis and river training and management design, in order to achieve a fully self-updating decision support system which feeds back analysis results to design evaluations and again updated information from developed works to the prediction models.

"Technical Report" Flood Hydrograph Simulation Using HEC-HMS Model in Sarbaz River Basin of Sistan and Baluchestan Province

Hydrological models are simplified representation of the real basin system, which helps to assess basin function in response to different inputs and better understanding of hydrological processes. The HEC-HMS model is one of the most important hydrological models for Flood estimating volumes and discharge in watersheds. In this research, the HEC-HMS hydrologic model was used to simulate the ...

Automatic Calibration of HEC-HMS Model Using Multi-Objective Fuzzy Optimal Models

Estimation of parameters of a hydrologic model is undertaken using a procedure called “calibration” in order to obtain predictions as close as possible to observed values. This study aimed to use the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm for automatic calibration of the HEC-HMS hydrologic model, which includes a library of different event-based models for simulating the rainfall-runoff pr...

Gis-based Hydrological Modeling: a Comparative Study of Hec-hms and the Xinanjiang Model

The last few years have witnessed an enormous study in the area of integrated hydrological modeling with GIS application. In this research, attempt was made to critically look at the application of HEC-GeoHMS which is an extension of ArcView in HEC-HMS; an HEC package which is a new generation of software being developed for rainfall-runoff simulation. The main role of HEC-GeoHMS is to formulat...

Floodplain mapping using HEC-RAS and GIS in semi-arid regions of Iran

Abstract A significant deficiency of most computer models used for stream floodplain analysis is that the locations of structures impacted by floodwaters, such as bridges, roads, and buildings, cannot be effectively compared to the floodplain location. This research presents a straightforward approach for processing output of the HEC-RAS hydraulic model, to enable two- and three dimensional f...

تخمین آبنمود سیلاب حوزه آبخیز با استفاده از مدل HEC-HMS و سامانه اطلاعات جغرافیایی (مطالعه موردی: حوزه آبخیز ایدنک)

Among the variety of method s used for estimating runoff in the watershed, the SCS method has universal applicability, so the main aim of this study is the calibration of SCS method and the creation of flood hydrograph. The HEC-HMS hydrologic (rainfall-runoff) model has been used for Idanak watershed flood estimation. Using the residual sum of squared minimization function”, calibration proce...
