Growth Factor (HGF) as a Potential of Severity of Hypertension

چکیده
Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF) is a mesenchyme-derived pleiotropic factor that regulates cell growth, cell motility, and morphogenesis of various cells, and is thus considered a humoral mediator of epithelial-mesenchymal interactions. We previously identified HGF as a novel member of the family of endothelium-specific growth factors. Moreover, the presence of a local HGF system (HGF and its specific receptor, c-met) has been demonstrated in vascular cells both in vitro and in vivo. HGF might contribute to the protection and/or repair of vascular endothelial cells injured by high blood pressure. If so, serum HGF level might be elevated in response to endothelial cell damage. To test this hypothesis, we measured serum levels of HGF in hypertensive and normotensive patients. Serum HGF concentration in hypertensive patients without any complications was significantly higher than that in normal subjects. Interestingly, serum HGF concentration in hypertensive patients with complications was significantly higher than that in either hypertensive patients without complications or normotensive subjects. Of importance, hypertensive patients treated with antihypertensive drugs showed the same level of serum HGF concentration as normotensive subjects. In contrast, serum HGF concentration in diabetic patients without hypertension was significantly lower than that in normal subjects, whereas serum HGF concentration in diabetic patients with hypertension was significantly higher than that in normal subjects. Moreover, serum HGF concentration in diabetic patients with hypertensive complications was even higher than that in diabetics without complications. This review discusses the possibility that HGF may be considered as a new index of the severity of hypertension. (Hypertens Res 1999; 22: 161-167)

Analysis of Soluble Mesenchymal-Epithelial Transition Factor and Hepatocyte Growth Factor Serum Levels in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder
Background: Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF) and its receptor, Mesothelial-Epithelial Transition (cMet) factor signaling, play an essential role in controlling synaptogenesis. Objectives: Because of the vital role of HGF and Met signaling in synaptogenesis and spatial learning function of the brain’s hippocampal region, we aimed to study the HGF and soluble cMet (s-cMet) serum levels in childre...
متن کاملThe Effect of Hepatocyte Growth Factor on Learning and Memory Abilities in a Rat Model of Kainate-Induced Epilepsy
Background and Objective: Epilepsy as a chronic neurological disorder causes inherent seizures and learning and memory failure. Since there is no acceptable control of seizures in some patients with the current recommended drug therapy, new medications with different mechanisms of action are needed. Here, the beneficial effect of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) was evaluated in an experimental m...
متن کاملAssociation of Hepatocyte Growth Factor Genetic Variation (S3735520) and Its Concentration in Autism Spectrum Disorders: A Case-control Study
Background: Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF) was shown to play a key role in synaptogenesis, survival, maturation, and reconstruction of neuron cells and was shown to be implicated in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Objectives: Assessing the relationship between HGF (rs3735520) gene polymorphism and its circulating levels in ASD. Materials & Methods: A total of 140 ASD patients and 120 children...
متن کاملAngiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition restores hepatocyte growth factor production in patients with congestive heart failure.
Endothelium-dependent vasodilation is impaired in patients with congestive heart failure. For vascular endothelium, hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is one of the most potent and specific growth factors, which acts protectively against endothelial dysfunction. HGF production is downregulated by angiotensin II (Ang II) in vitro. We hypothesized that HGF production is impaired as the result of incr...
متن کاملP-107: Vitrification and In Vitro Culture of Mouse Preantral Follicles in Presence of Growth Factors
Background: Cryopreservation of oocytes is an effective technology in assisted reproductive technology. Although successful vitrification of gametes has been reported in several mammalian species, the survival is generally low. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of fibroblast growth factor (FGF) and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) on preantral follicle development after vitrifi...
