Null Space Imaging: a Novel Gradient Encoding Strategy for Highly Efficient Parallel Imaging
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction: The current work proposes a novel encoding scheme that makes use of nonlinear magnetic encoding gradients designed to be maximally complementary to coil sensitivities in parallel MRI. In parallel MRI, multiple receiver coils collect signal locally sensitive to limited regions within the field of view. Coil sensitivity profiles, which map the spatial dependence of electromagnetic signal induction, are used in methods such as SENSE and SMASH to reconstruct images. Traditionally, advances in parallel imaging acceleration have not considered the encoding magnetic gradient fields used for localizing spins but have focused more on the receiver coil hardware.

O-space imaging: Highly efficient parallel imaging using second-order nonlinear fields as encoding gradients with no phase encoding.
Recent improvements in parallel imaging have been driven by the use of greater numbers of independent surface coils placed so as to minimize aliasing along the phase-encode direction(s). However, gains from increasing the number of coils diminish as coil coupling problems begin to dominate and the ratio of acceleration gain to expense for multiple receiver chains becomes prohibitive. In this wo...
متن کاملO-space Imaging: Tailoring Encoding Gradients to Coil Profiles for Highly Accelerated Imaging
Introduction: O-space imaging is a novel MR imaging method, intended to achieve very short imaging times compared to conventional imaging, by using optimal imaging gradients with respect to coil sensitivities, thus improving the orthogonality of each acquisition. High acceleration factors are achievable in parallel imaging with proper coil designs using conventional Fourier based acquisitions w...

PURPOSE To introduce the wave-CAIPI (controlled aliasing in parallel imaging) acquisition and reconstruction technique for highly accelerated 3D imaging with negligible g-factor and artifact penalties. METHODS The wave-CAIPI 3D acquisition involves playing sinusoidal gy and gz gradients during the readout of each kx encoding line while modifying the 3D phase encoding strategy to incur intersl...
متن کاملTowards a geometry factor for projection imaging with non-linear gradient fields
INTRODUCTION: O-Space parallel imaging combines a Z2 gradient field with conventional radial k-space trajectories to perform highly-efficient parallel imaging [1]. Because the Z2 field varies as r2 = x2+y2 in the axial plane, it provides spatial encoding that is complementary to that obtained from a circumferential surface coil array. However, non-linear projection encoding invites the explorat...
متن کاملEffect of Phase-Encoding Reduction on Geometric Distortion and BOLD Signal Changes in fMRI
Introduction Echo-planar imaging (EPI) is a group of fast data acquisition methods commonly used in fMRI studies. It acquires multiple image lines in k-space after a single excitation, which leads to a very short scan time. A well-known problem with EPI is that it is more sensitive to distortions due to the used encoding scheme. Source of distortion is inhomogeneity in the static B0 field that ...
