A Bank of Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) Estimators for Target Tracking

چکیده
Nonlinear estimation problems, such as range-only and bearing-only target tracking, are often addressed using linearized estimators, e.g., the extended Kalman filter (EKF). These estimators generally suffer from linearization errors as well as the inability to track multimodal probability density functions (pdfs). In this paper, we propose a bank of batch maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimators as a general estimation framework that provides relinearization of the entire state trajectory, multi-hypothesis tracking, and an efficient hypothesis generation scheme. Each estimator in the bank is initialized using a locally optimal state estimate for the current time step. Every time a new measurement becomes available, we relax the original batchMAP problem and solve it incrementally. More specifically, we convert the relaxed one-step-ahead cost function into polynomial or rational form and compute all the local minima analytically. These local minima generate highly probable hypotheses for the target’s trajectory and hence greatly improve the quality of the overall MAP estimate. Additionally, pruning of least probable hypotheses and marginalization of old states are employed to control the computational cost. Monte-Carlo simulation and realworld experimental results show that the proposed approach significantly outperforms the standard EKF, the batch-MAP estimator, and the particle filter (PF).

Equivalent a posteriori error estimates for spectral element solutions of constrained optimal control problem in one dimension
In this paper, we study spectral element approximation for a constrained optimal control problem in one dimension. The equivalent a posteriori error estimators are derived for the control, the state and the adjoint state approximation. Such estimators can be used to construct adaptive spectral elements for the control problems.
متن کاملImproving the quality of ultrasound images using Bayesian estimators
Medical ultrasound imaging due to close behavior of cancer tumors to body tissues has a low contrast. This problem with synthetic aperture imaging method has been addressed. Although the synthetic aperture imaging technique solved the low-contrast problem of ultrasound images, to an acceptable limit, but the performance of these methods is not even acceptable when the signal to noise ratio (SNR...
متن کاملMulti-Target Joint Detection and Estimation Error Bound for the Sensor with Clutter and Missed Detection
The error bound is a typical measure of the limiting performance of all filters for the given sensor measurement setting. This is of practical importance in guiding the design and management of sensors to improve target tracking performance. Within the random finite set (RFS) framework, an error bound for joint detection and estimation (JDE) of multiple targets using a single sensor with clutte...
متن کاملMaximum a Posteriori (map) Multitarget Tracking for Broadband Aeroacoustic Sources
Acoustic sensors offer the potential to detect, track, and classify enemy ground targets such as tanks, trucks, and other military vehicles. Traditional multitarget tracking techniques partition the track estimation operation into two isolated processes: directionof-arrival (DOA) estimation from array snapshot data, followed by track estimation from the DOA estimates. In this paper, a multiple ...
متن کاملNoise Power Spectral Density Estimation based on Maximum a Posteriori and Generalized Gamma Distribution
Noise power spectral density (PSD) estimation is a crucial part of speech enhancement system due to its contributory effect on the quality of the noise reduced speech. A novel estimation method for color noise PSD on the basis of an assumption of generalized Gamma distribution and maximum a posteriori (MAP) criterion is proposed. In the experiment, generalized Gamma PDF which is a natural exten...
