Roles of proteins in the electron transfer in the photosynthetic reaction center of Rhodopseudomonas viridis: bacteriopheophytin to ubiquinone
نویسندگان
چکیده
The electron transfer (ET) from bacteriopheophytin (H) to ubiquinone (UQ) in the photosynthetic reaction center (PSRC) of Rhodopseudomonas (Rps.) viridis was studied by ab initio quantum-chemical calculations. The ET from the H in L-region (HL) to menaquinone (MQ) occurs through the super-exchange mechanism using Trp M250 as a bridge, while in the M-region Leu L189 works as a bridge in the ET from HM to UQ. The transfer integral for the L-branch was 20 times larger than that for the M-branch, which was due to the difference in the amino acid residues placed between the chromophores. For the ET from MQ to UQ, the super-exchange mechanism using His M217 and His L190 as two subsequent bridges was by far the largest, showing the importance of these residues in the ET between MQ and UQ. c © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Mechanism and Unidirectionality of the Electron Transfer in the Photosynthetic Reaction Center of Rhodopseudomonas Viridis: SAC-CI Theoretical Study
The electronic mechanism and the origin of the unidirectionality of the electron transfer from photoexcited special pair to bacteriopheophytin in the photosynthetic reaction center (PSRC) of Rhodopseudomonas (Rps) Viridis are studied theoretically by using the SAC(symmetry adapted cluster)-CI (configuration interaction) method. The effects of the surrounding proteins are considered by using the...
متن کاملFemtosecond spectroscopy of excitation energy transfer and initial charge separation in the reaction center of the photosynthetic bacterium Rhodopseudomonas viridis.
Reaction centers from the photosynthetic bacterium Rhodopseudomonas viridis have been excited within the near-infrared absorption bands of the dimeric primary donor (P), of the "accessory" bacteriochlorophylls (B), and of the bacteriopheophytins (H) by using laser pulses of 150-fsec duration. The transfer of excitation energy between H, B, and P occurs in slightly less than 100 fsec and leads t...

The excitation spectrum of the photosynthetic reaction center (PSRC) of Rhodopseudomonas (Rps.) Viridis is assigned by using the SAC(symmetry adapted cluster)-CI(configuration interaction) method. All the chromophores included in the PSRC, bacteriochlorophyll b dimer (special pair, P), bacteriochlorophyll b in Land M-branches (BL and BM), bacteriopheophytin b in Land M-branches (HL and HM), men...
متن کاملTime-resolved magnetic field effect on triplet formation in photosynthetic reaction centers of Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides R-26.
The primary events in bacterial photosynthesis have been studied since it became possible [l] to isolate reaction centers of photosynthetic bacteria, e.g., of Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides. Within <lO ps [2,3] after excitation of bacteriochlorophyll to its first excited singlet state, the radical pair state PF is formed consisting of a bacteriochlorophyll dimer cation (Bdhl); and a bacteriopheop...
متن کاملTime-resolved crystallographic studies of light-induced structural changes in the photosynthetic reaction center.
Light-induced structural changes in the bacterial reaction center were studied by a time-resolved crystallographic experiment. Crystals of protein from Blastochloris viridis (formerly Rhodopseudomonas viridis) were reconstituted with ubiquinone and analyzed by monochromatic and Laue diffraction, in the dark and 3 ms after illuminating the crystal with a pulsed laser (630 nm, 3 mJ/pulse, 7 ns du...
