The Visual Thesaurus: A Practical Application

Image storage and retrieval are currently the focus of much research, yet an understanding of such basic issues as thh relationships between text and image, the effects of human processing of images, and the impact that these could have on systems design remains hazy. Many of those concerned with image processing and recognition rely on technological advances in such areas as machine vision to solve problems of retrieval, remains focused on hardware and software advances.
