Coverage and Capacity Issues in Enterprise Wireless LAN Deployment
نویسندگان
چکیده
Although Wireless LANs market has grown tremendously in the last few years, their enterprise deployment has been fairly limited. From manual site survey process to ensure adequate coverage to well-known security issues in original standards, there have been several deterrents to widespread enterprise deployment of wireless LANs. In this paper we describe three of the core wireless LAN deployment problems – access point positioning and cell dimensioning, channel allocation, and access point load balancing, and show how existing tools and systems address these problems to provide adequate coverage and capacity across an enterprise. We bring out the similarities between these issues and related deployment issues in cellular networking arena, and discuss various proposed solutions in both contexts. Finally, we survey several advanced architectures that further automate the deployment and management of wireless LANs.

Deployment Issues in Enterprise Wireless LANs
Although Wireless LANs market has grown tremendously in last few years, their enterprise deployments have been fairly limited. From manual site survey process to ensure signal coverage at all locations, to the well known security issues in original standards, there have been several deterrents to a widespread enterprise deployments of wireless LANs. In this paper we attempt to clarify three of ...
متن کاملDesign and evaluation of two distributed methods for sensors placement in Wireless Sensor Networks
Adequate coverage is one of the main problems for distributed wireless sensor networks and The effectiveness of that highly depends on the sensor deployment scheme. Given a finite number of sensors, optimizing the sensor deployment will provide sufficient sensor coverage and save power of sensors for movement to target location to adequate coverage. In this paper, we apply fuzzy logic system to...

متن کاملNext Generation Wireless Lan System Design
An important issue in the widespread deployment of infrastructure based wireless local area networks (WLANs) is the network design. In this paper, we propose a new WLAN design approach that focuses on assuring sufficient data rate capacity to meet expected user demand in the coverage area, while still satisfying signal coverage and interference level requirements. Noting the low cost of WLAN ac...
متن کاملSecuring and scaling the Wireless LAN
First generation Wireless LAN (WLAN) systems were all about basic standards, connectivity, and end-user benefits. They did not address a number of key enterprise requirements. Second generation WLAN systems are all about enhanced standards addressing security, Quality of Service (QoS), interoperability, enterprise-wide roaming, and architected solutions with placement of functionality for optim...
