A Deep 12μm Survey with ISO

چکیده

I present results from a deep 12μm extragalactic survey conducted with the ISOCAM instrument. The survey covers about 0.1 sq. deg. in four fields and reaches a 5σ flux limit of ∼500μJy. 50 sources are identified to this flux limit. Of these, 37 are classified as galaxies on the basis of optical/mid-IR colours using identifications from the USNO-A photographic survey. Number counts for these objects exceed those predicted for no-evolution models in simple models. However, these conclusions are somewhat dependent on the assumed K-corrections. For this reason, and to better determine the nature of the evolution of this population, followup observations are required to determine redshifts, broadband optical-IR colours, and optical morphologies. The first results from these followups are presented. Images and optical/IR photometry for one of the four fields is discussed, and I also present the first results from optical spectroscopy. The highest redshift for the sample so far is z=1.2 for a broad-line object.

The milliJansky 12 μ m Population : First Followup ⋆

We present the first results of our followup programme of optical imaging and spectroscopy of a deep 12μm survey conducted with the ISO satellite (Clements et al. 1999). We find that the objects are typically of fairly low redshift (z∼0.1–0.2), but with a tail that extends to high redshifts. The highest redshift object is a previously unknown quasar at z=1.2. The sample of objects for which spe...

ORIGIN OF 12μm EMISSION ACROSS GALAXY POPULATIONS FROM WISE AND SDSS SURVEYS

We cross-matched Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) sources brighter than 1 mJy at 12μm with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) galaxy spectroscopic catalog to produce a sample of ∼ 10 galaxies at 〈z〉=0.08, the largest of its kind. This sample is dominated (70%) by star-forming (SF) galaxies from the blue sequence, with total IR luminosities in the range ∼ 10 − 10L⊙. We identify which ...

Spitzer spectra of Seyfert galaxies

The Spitzer IRS high resolution spectra of about 90 Seyfert galaxies from the 12μm Galaxy Sample are presented and discussed. These represent about 70% of the total complete sample of local Seyfert galaxies. The presence of starburst components in these galaxies can be quantified by powerful mid-IR diagnostics tools (i.e. 11.25μm PAH feature equivalent width and the H2 emission line intensity) ...

HCN Survey of Normal Spiral, IR-luminous and Ultraluminous Galaxies

We report systematic HCN J=1-0 (and CO) observations of a sample of 53 infrared (IR) and/or CO-bright and/or luminous galaxies, including seven ultraluminous infrared galaxies, nearly 20 luminous infrared galaxies, and more than a dozen of the nearest normal spiral galaxies. This is the largest and most sensitive HCN survey of galaxies to date. All galaxies observed so far follow the tight corr...
