6 Relationships between common water bacteria and pathogens in drinking-water H. Leclerc 6.1 INTRODUCTION To perform a risk analysis for pathogens in drinking-water, it is necessary, on the one hand, to promote epidemiological studies, such as prospective cohort and case–control studies. It is also appropriate, on the other hand, to better understand the ecology of these microorganisms, especially in analysing in detail the interactions between common water bacteria and pathogens in such diverse habitats as free water and biofilms. It appears essential to distinguish two categories of drinking-water sources: surface water and groundwater under the direct influence of surface water

Fungi Occurrence Assessment in Drinking Water Distribution Systems and Its Relationship with Fecal Indicator Bacteria
Introduction: As recommended by World Health Organization, consumption of the fungal contaminated water does not cause to serious infection, but may lead to healthy or aesthetic problems. The aim of this research was to assess the occurrence of fungi in water and its relationship with fecal indicator bacteria. Materials and Methods: 110 water samples were collected from different location of w...
متن کاملHeterotrophic Bacteria Count Index in Drinking Water and Possibility of Biofilm Formation in Household Drinking Water Treatment Devices in Sari, Iran
Background and purpose: Household drinking water treatment devices are becoming commonplace to improve the quality of drinking water, remove odor, taste, turbidity and color, pathogenic organisms, toxic chemicals, organic matter, and carcinogenic pollutants. This study aimed at investigating the Heterotrophic plate count (HPC) in drinking water and possibility of biofilm formation in household...
متن کاملInvestigation of natural biofilms formed during the production of drinking water from surface water embankment filtration.
Populations of bacteria in biofilms from different sites of a drinking water production system were analysed. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) analyses revealed changing DNA band patterns, suggesting a population shift during bank filtration and processing at the waterworks. In addition, common DNA bands that were attributed to ubiquitous bacter...
متن کاملRelationship between Turbidity and Residual Chlorine and Microbial Quality of Drinking Water
Abstract Background and Objective: Safe drinking water is essential for health and health promotion is dependent on providing safe water. We aimed to determine the relationship between turbidity & residual chlorine and microbial quality of drinking water in Agh ghala. Material and Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, 2079 water samples were collected from water networks of 78 ...
متن کاملComparison of PCR Technique with MPN Method in Identification of Coliform Bacteria in Water
Microbial pathogens are among factors posing significant threats to hygiene issues for water and wastewater. Thus indicator bacteria are used for detection of relative risk of fecal contamination and potential presence of pathogens in water. However, indicator organisms bear some disadvantages decreasing their effectiveness as ideal indicators of microbial pathogens in water. In addition, conve...
