Computer Simulation of Flood Operation in Multireservoir Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
In this article, a summary of experience with the development of methods for controlling multiple-reservoir systems during flood periods, gained through computer simulation, is presented. Several decision mechanisms based on online forecasting and optimization are taken into consideration. Particular attention is focused on a two-level control structure with periodic coordination. The advantages of applying parallel global algorithms to determine the optimal decisions regarding outflows from the reservoirs are presented. Advantages of developing sophisticated control structures, as well as decision mechanisms with respect to the available quality of inflow forecasting and delays involved by data transmission and computation time, are considered. Finally, the results of simulations of online management in the case study of two reservoir systems located in the southern part of Poland are described and discussed.

Parallel discrete differential dynamic programming for multireservoir operation
The curse of dimensionality and computational time cost are a great challenge to operation of large-scale hydropower systems (LSHSs) in China because computer memory and computational time increase exponentially with increasing number of reservoirs. Discrete differential dynamic programming (DDDP) is one of the most classical algorithms for alleviating the dimensionality problem for operation o...
متن کاملModelling the operation of multireservoir systems using decomposition and stochastic dynamic programming
Stochastic dynamic programming models are attractive for multireservoir control problems because they allow non-linear features to be incorporated and changes in hydrological conditions to be modelled as Markov processes. However with the exception of the simplest cases, these models are computationally intractable because of the high dimension of the state and action spaces involved. This pape...

متن کاملA case study of flood dynamic wave simulation in natural waterways using numerical solution of unsteady flows
Flood routing has many applications in engineering projects and helps designers in understanding the flood flow characteristics in river flows. Floods are taken unsteady flows that vary by time and location. Equations governing unsteady flows in waterways are continuity and momentum equations which in case of one-dimensional flow the Saint-Venant hypothesis is considered. Dynamic wave model as ...
