Operational Mermin non-locality and All-vs-Nothing arguments

چکیده

Contextuality is a key resource in quantum information and the device-independent security of quantum algorithms. In this work, we show that the recently developed, operational Mermin non-locality arguments of [9] provide a large, novel family of quantum realisable All-vs-Nothing models [1]. In particular, they result in a diverse wealth of quantum realisable models which are maximally contextual (i.e. lie on the faces of the no-signalling polytope with no local elements), and could be used as a resource for the security of a new class of quantum secret sharing algorithms.

Identifying All-vs-Nothing Arguments in Stabiliser Theory

All-vs-Nothing arguments represent a powerful method for the detection of strong contextuality in quantum theory. The original formulation by Mermin [15] has been recently formalised and generalised using stabiliser quantum mechanics [2, 9]. In the present paper, we take advantage of this framework to introduce a computational technique to identify a large amount of strongly contextual empirica...

Generalised Mermin-type non-locality arguments

We broadly generalise Mermin-type arguments on GHZ states, and we provide exact group-theoretic conditions for non-locality to be achieved. Our results are of interest in quantum foundations, where they yield a new hierarchy of quantum-realisable All-vsNothing arguments. They are also of interest to quantum protocols, where they find immediate application to a non-trivial extension of the hybri...

Detecting Contextuality: Sheaf Cohomology and All vs Nothing Arguments

The main topic of this thesis is the study of contextuality, a key characteristic feature of quantum mechanics that represents one of the most valuable resources for quantum computation. We will adopt the sheaf-theoretic approach to non-locality and contextuality introduced in [AB11]. This elegant mathematical theory will enable us to consider contextuality on a higher scale, as a general, abst...

Mermin Non-Locality in Abstract Process Theories

The study of non-locality is fundamental to the understanding of quantum mechanics. The past 50 years have seen a number of non-locality proofs, but its fundamental building blocks, and the exact role it plays in quantum protocols, has remained elusive. In this paper, we focus on a particular flavour of non-locality, generalising Mermin’s argument on the GHZ state. Using strongly complementary ...
