Phase modeling of instrument sounds based on psycho acoustic experiments
نویسندگان
چکیده
This article presents a number of preliminary psycho-acoustic experiments for assessing the importance of phase preservation in monaural recorded sounds from music instruments and singing voice. The experiments are based on additive analysis/synthesis to control the phase as a parameter independent of amplitude and frequency. The experiments shows that phase is an important perceptual parameter for a wide range of musical sounds. Furthermore phase representations in the additive analysis/synthesis is reviewed, and an extension to an existing way of representing the phase is presented. This representation shows promising results for building simple phase models for the stable parts of voiced sounds.

Phase models in analysis/synthesis of voiced sounds
This article presents an overview of the problems involved in modeling the phase in analysis/synthesis of voiced sounds. A number of informal experiments for monaural sounds are presented, demonstrating the problems and possible improvements to these kinds of systems. Furthermore, a number of psycho-acoustic experiments are presented, for assessing the importance of phase information regarding ...
متن کاملOn the importance of phase information in additive analysis/synthesis of binaural sounds
This article presents a number of psycho-acoustic experiments for assessing the importance of phase information regarding the spatial qualities of synthesized sounds from voiced instruments. Binaural recorded sounds are synthesized using additive analysis/synthesis with and without phase information. The phase information is used in the synthesis to preserve the characteristics of the waveform....
متن کاملAllophone-based acoustic modeling for Persian phoneme recognition
Phoneme recognition is one of the fundamental phases of automatic speech recognition. Coarticulation which refers to the integration of sounds, is one of the important obstacles in phoneme recognition. In other words, each phone is influenced and changed by the characteristics of its neighbor phones, and coarticulation is responsible for most of these changes. The idea of modeling the effects o...
متن کاملCross-linguistic differences in the perception of palatalization
This paper investigates the difference between basic psycho-acoustic auditory perception and language-specific perception of speech sounds. This was examined in two experiments with American English and Russian listeners. Results suggest that listeners' language does not influence auditory perception, but does affect the rated perceptual similarity of speech sounds.
متن کاملVibrotactile Identification of Signal-Processed Sounds from Environmental Events Presented by a Portable Vibrator: A Laboratory Study
Objectives: To evaluate different signal-processing algorithms for tactile identification of environmental sounds in a monitoring aid for the deafblind. Two men and three women, sensorineurally deaf or profoundly hearing impaired with experience of vibratory experiments, age 22-36 years. Methods: A closed set of 45 representative environmental sounds were processed using two transposing (TRH...
