Participant Selection for Crowdsourcing Disaster Information
نویسندگان
چکیده
Experiences with past major disasters tell us that people with wireless devices and social network services can serve effectively as mobile human sensors. A disaster warning and response system can solicit eye-witness reports from selected participants and use information provided by them to supplement surveillance sensor coverage. This paper describes several formulations of the participant selection problem that selects participants from available people in order to collect disaster information of threatened areas. Design and Implementation of Participant Selection for Crowdsourcing Disaster Information
A typical disaster surveillance and early warning system often needs to make timely and critically important preparedness decisions before disasters strike. When crowdsourcing observational data from people to enhance its sensor coverage, the system must be able to make effective use of volunteers, guide them during their exploration of the threatened area, and process reports from them in real...
متن کاملThe Analysis of Information Crowdsourcing Cloud for Disaster Management: Case Studies of Taiwan Morakot Typhoon
With the development of social networks, the mechanism of crowdsourcing is not limited to commercial application. In the event of disaster, information disseminated through social networks, and the mechanism of crowdsourcing thus is established. However, it is worth discussing whether the accuracy of the disaster information through the virtual community can be referred to the government agenci...
متن کاملSACRM: Social Aware Crowdsourcing with Reputation Management in Mobile Sensing
Mobile sensing has become a promising paradigm for mobile users to obtain information by task crowdsourcing. However, due to the social preferences of mobile users, the quality of sensing reports may be impacted by the underlying social attributes and selfishness of individuals. Therefore, it is crucial to consider the social impacts and trustworthiness of mobile users when selecting task parti...
متن کاملBeing Specific about Geographic Information Crowdsourcing: A Typology and Analysis of the Missing Maps Project in South Kivu
Recent development in disaster management and humanitarian aid is shaped by the rise of new information sources such as social media or volunteered geographic information. As these show great potential, making sense out of the new geographical datasets is a field of important scientific research. Therefore, this paper attempts to develop a typology of geographical information crowdsourcing. Fur...
متن کاملTrust, but verify: social media models for disaster management.
A lack of trust in the information exchanged via social media may significantly hinder decisionmaking by community members and emergency services during disasters. The need for timely information at such times, though, challenges traditional ways of establishing trust. This paper, building on a multi-year research project that combined social media data analysis and participant observation with...
