Cardiac Magnetic Resonance in heart transplant patients: diagnostic value of quantitative tissue markers (T2 mapping and ECV) for acute cardiac rejection diagnosis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background The diagnosis of acute cardiac rejection (AR) still requires invasive technique with endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) which has important risks and limitations. Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) with recently T2 and T1 mapping is a promising technique for characterizing myocardial tissue. The purpose of the study was to evaluate T2, T1 and extracellular volume (ECV) quantification as novel tissue markers to diagnose acute cardiac rejection.

Cardiac magnetic resonance T2 mapping for monitoring acute cardiac transplant rejection
Introduction Cardiac transplantation is the treatment for some patients with end-stage heart failure. After transplantation asymptomatic acute allograft rejection is a major factor impacting survival in the first 12 months. Current transplant monitoring requires frequent right heart catheterizations, endomyocardial biopsies (EMB), and echocardiography. CMR imaging, comparatively less invasive, ...
متن کاملCardiac magnetic resonance T2 mapping in the monitoring and follow-up of acute cardiac transplant rejection: a pilot study.
BACKGROUND Acute rejection is a major factor impacting survival in the first 12 months after cardiac transplantation. Transplant monitoring requires invasive techniques. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), noninvasive testing, has been used in monitoring heart transplants. Prolonged T2 relaxation has been related to transplant edema and possibly rejection. We hypothesize that prolonged T2 reflect...
متن کاملEvaluation of tissue doppler echocardiography and T2* magnetic resonance imaging in iron load of patients with thalassemia major
Background: Iron-mediated cardiomyopathy is the main complication of thalassemia major (TM) patients. Therefore, there is an important clinical need in the early diagnosis and risk stratification of patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of tissue doppler imaging (TDI) to study cardiac iron overload in patients with TM using T2* magnetic resonance (MR) as the gold-standard...
متن کاملClinical utility of cardiac magnetic resonance T2 mapping for acute myocardial edema
Background Edema is a generic tissue response to acute myocardial injury and, therefore; a potential marker of impending tissue damage. Currently in clinical use, T2 weighted imaging provides a qualitative technique in assessing myocardial edema. We hypothesize that quantitative T2 mapping in patients with suspected cases of myocarditis, myocardial infarction (AMI), and cardiac transplant rejec...
متن کاملIncremental value of quantitative CMR including parametric mapping for the diagnosis of acute myocarditis.
AIM Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) can visualize inflammatory tissue changes in acute myocarditis. Several quantitative image-derived parameters have been described to enhance the diagnostic value of CMR, but no direct comparison of these techniques is available. METHODS AND RESULTS A total of 34 patients with suspected acute myocarditis and 50 control subjects underwent CMR. CMR protocol i...
