Atmospheric Muon and Neutrino Flux From 3-Dimensional Simulation
نویسنده
چکیده
The atmospheric muon and neutrino flux have been simulated using the same approach which successfully accounted for the recent secondary proton, electron and positron flux measurements in orbit by the AMS experiment. For the muon flux, a good agreement is obtained with the CAPRICE and HEAT data for altitudes ranging from sea level up to about 38 km. The general features of the calculated atmospheric neutrino flux are reported and discussed. The flux obtained at the SuperKamiokande experiment location are reported and compared with other calculations. For low neutrino energies the flux obtained is significantly smaller than that used in the data analysis of underground experiment. The simulation results for the SOUDAN experiment site are also reported. PACS number(s): 96.40.Tv, 95.85.Ry, 14.60.Pq Present address: MS 309, FermiLab, P.O.Box 500, Batavia, IL 60510, USA. متن کاملAtmospheric neutrino flux and muon data
We present a new one-dimensional calculation of low and intermediate energy atmospheric muon and neutrino fluxes, using up-to-date data on primary cosmic rays and hadronic interactions. The existing agreement between calculated muon fluxes and the data of the CAPRICE 94 muon experiment provides an evidence in favor of the validity of our description of hadronic interactions and shower developme...
متن کاملAtmospheric MUons from PArametric formulas: a fast GEnerator for neutrino telescopes (MUPAGE)
Neutrino telescopes are opening new opportunities in observational high energy astrophysics. In these detectors, atmospheric muons from primary cosmic ray interactions in the atmosphere play an important role. They provide the most abundant source of events for calibration and for testing the reconstruction algorithms. On the other hand, they represent the major background source. The simulatio...
متن کاملTau Neutrino Astronomy in GeV Energies
We point out the opportunity of the tau neutrino astronomy for the neutrino energy E ranging between 10 GeV and 10 GeV. In this energy range, the intrinsic tau neutrino production is suppressed relative to the intrinsic muon neutrino production. Any sizable tau neutrino flux may thus arise because of the νμ → ντ neutrino oscillations only. It is demonstrated that, in the presence of the neutrin...
متن کاملAtmospheric neutrino challenges
In 2004, after the experimental statistics on atmospheric neutrinos has become so good, one the major obstacles to the exact determination of the oscillation parameters is the uncertainty in the predictions of the atmospheric neutrino flux. The predictions are not bad, we qualitatively understand well all features of the neutrino flux, but reaching the necessary 5% or better level is still impo...
