A decidable characterization of the classes between lintime and exptime
نویسنده
چکیده
A language is defined by closure under safe iteration and under a new form of safe diagonalization that, unlike other forms of diagonalization used in literature to define sub-recursive hierarchies, is constructive and decidable. By counting the nesting levels of these schemes, an ordinal is assigned to each program. This yields a hierarchy Tα (α < ωω) that singles-out the complexity classes DTIMEF(ncn d+e) for all c, d, e ≥ 0.

Almost Completeness in Small Complexity Classes
We constructively prove the existence of almost complete problems under logspace manyone reduction for some small complexity classes by exhibiting a parametrizable construction which yields, when appropriately setting the parameters, an almost complete problem for PSPACE, the class of space efficiently decidable problems, and for SUBEXP, the class of problems decidable in subexponential time. O...
متن کاملMaking CAT S out of kittens description logics with aggregates
Based on the research done in the last decade attempts have been made to propose descrip tion logics as unifying formalisms for the var ious class based representation languages used in di erent areas These attempts have made apparent that sound complete and decidable description logics still su er from several lim itations regarding modeling classes of aggre gate objects expressing general inc...
متن کاملThe Decidable Properties of Subrecursive Functions
What can be decided or semidecided about a primitive recursive function, given a definition of that function by primitive recursion? What about subrecursive classes other than primitive recursive functions? We provide a complete and explicit characterization of the decidable and semidecidable properties. This characterization uses a variant of Kolmogorov complexity where only programs in a subr...
متن کاملP-Selective Self-reducibles Sets: A New Characterization of P
Separating complexity classes is a very popular, but rarely won game in complexity theory. Frustrated by misfortune, computer scientists have often turned to attempts of characterizing complexity classes in a different way. The hopes are, that the new characterization of the complexity class may provide new insights and a ``handle'' to force the separation where earlier attempts have failed. We...
متن کاملA predicative and decidable characterization of the polynomial classes of languages
The deenition of a class C of functions is predicative if it doesn't use a class containing C; and is decidable if membershipto C can be decided syntactically, from the construction of its elements. Decidable and predicative characterizations of Poly-time functions are known. We present here such a characterization for the following classes of languages: P, p n ; p n , PH and PSPACE. It is obta...
