Marked Mix-Nets

چکیده

We propose a variant mix-net method, which we call a “marked mix-net” . Marked mix-nets avoid the extra cost associated with verifiability (producing a proof of correct mixing operation), while offering additional assurances about the privacy of the messages, compared to a non-verifiable mix-net. With a marked mix-net, each mix-server adds an extra secret mark in each ciphertext, and the input ciphertexts are made non-malleable but still re-randomizable (RCCA). Marked mix-nets appear to be a good fit for the mix-net requirements of voting systems that need a mix-net for anonymity but where correctness is guaranteed through independent mechanisms. Our work investigates applications to STAR-Vote, but other applications could be explored, e.g., in Prêt-à-Voter, Selene or Wombat.

Randomized Partial Checking Revisited

We study mix-nets with randomized partial checking (RPC) as proposed by Jakobsson, Juels, and Rivest (2002). RPC is a technique to verify the correctness of an execution both for Chaumian and homomorphic mix-nets. The idea is to relax the correctness and privacy requirements to achieve a more efficient mix-net. We identify serious issues in the original description of mix-nets with RPC and show...

Simplified Verifiable Re-encryption Mix-nets

Under the assumption that numbers of data that are encrypted and decrypted are sufficiently large and final decryption results of individual data can be publicly disclosed, a simplified mechanism for implementing reencryption type verifiable mix-nets is proposed. Different from already proposed mechanisms, in which mix-servers prove their honest encryptions while concealing their encryption par...

Making Mix Nets Robust for Electronic Voting by Randomized Partial Checking

We propose a new technique for making mix nets robust, called randomized partial checking (RPC). The basic idea is that rather than providing a proof of completely correct operation, each server provides strong evidence of its correct operation by revealing a pseudo-randomly selected subset of its input/output relations. Randomized partial checking is exceptionally efficient compared to previou...

Planar and braided proof-nets for multiplicative linear logic with mix

We consider a class of graphs embedded in R2 as noncommutative proof-nets with an explicit exchange rule. We give two characterization of such proof-nets, one representing proof-nets as CW-complexes in a two-dimensional disc, the other extending a characterization by Asperti. As a corollary, we obtain that the test of correctness in the case of planar graphs is linear in the size of the data. B...

Breaking and Mending Resilient Mix-Nets

In this paper we show two attacks against universally resilient mix-nets. The first attack can be used against a number of mixnets, including Furukawa-Sako01 [6], Millimix [11], Abe98 [1], MiP-1, MiP-2 [2, 3] and Neff01 [19]. We give the details of the attack in the case of Furukawa-Sako01 mix-net. The second attack breaks the correctness of Millimix [11]. We show how to counter these attacks, ...
